interior help

I am having the stock bench seat redone in a dark grey synthetic leather. My truck is apple red with red interior. I am getting ready to order a new dashpad and I'm thinking about ordering a grey one to match the grey seat. The rest of the dash is stock red color and I don't plan to change anything else on the interior. Any opinions are welcome and appreciated. The truck is an 86 model and I also plan on having below the body line vinyl wrapped in a darker grey just to break up all the red. I should have the seat back in the middle of the week and will post pics when I get it back.

Re: interior help

What are you doing with the door panels? What color is the rest of the interior?

Re: interior help

Thank you for replying, your truck scarlett is why I have decided to do the 2-tone on the exterior except mine will be darker grey. The door panels will stay the original red as will the rest of the interior. My wife just shampoo'd the stock red carpet and it looks good. I will be ordering new grey seat belts this winter to match the seat.

Re: interior help

If it were me I would do the dash pad and door panels to match the seat. That ties things together.

Re: interior help

I would agree, match the door panels, seat and dash pad. It ties things together and will break up that red. I did red door panels, seat, and dash pad to break up all the gray on my truck. Hope this helps and good luck.

Re: interior help

I have an 86 also, Apple red with the red interior. I started changing the interior to charcoal also. I had some red and some of it charcoal, but went to all charcoal in the end. I just though it looked better that way. To me, it looked 1/2 done with both colors on the interior. But by all means, that's just my opinion on my truck. Check out my build thread link at the bottom of this page.

I can help you out with what to buy where, as far as best prices and quality of the parts.

Re: interior help

Thank you, and I did read through your build thread and you just cost me more money! You have a very clean and beautiful truck. I didn't plan on a complete makeover but I guess that's out the window. I do have a question, I have seen you mention a brand of rear sliding window but after a search I couldn't find the thread. I'm going to replace the rear window while the seat is out and I'm not sure what brand to go with?

If you buy carpet contact Chris Lucas at www.73-87chevytrucks.com He carries ACC and has great customer service.

LOL, Sorry I thought that might happen. I know it sounds like a good idea and it's easier on the $$$. But until you have some of the interior red and then the rest grey, you won't like it, at least I didn't.
The rear window, mine already had one when I bought the truck. You might have seen where I talked about the vent windows. Hopefully someone else can help you out with the rear slider.

Ditto on the carpet, I used ACC also. Fit was great!!

Re: interior help

I seen you left a suggestion for where to purchase carpet, would it be best to purchase door panels, carpet, and dash pad from the same vendor or should I expect to do some dying to get everything to match?

I used LMC direct replacement door panels and lower door carpet.

For the dash pad

Re: interior help

This would be a good option, but it includes a seat cover, which you don't need. But with this, your guaranteed everything would match.

Re: interior help

I had a red '84 K10 with a charcoal interior, dash, carpet, seat, door panels. Loved the look of it with the red truck.

No matter what vendor you buy from theres a possibility that it will need dyed to match. On Scarlett, I dyed everything including the seat vinyl. Now it all matches perfectly.

I suggested Chris Lucas @captkoas because I have known him for many years and he has great customer service. I like the quality and service from Brothers Truck parts as well. LMC is hit or miss for me. I only use them when I must.

Re: interior help

I ordered my truck with the Mahogany interior and the ladies in my family hated it since day one.

When I redid the truck I went with the darker interior and I love it. I think it really pops, especially with the chrome shifter.

Site vendor Capt Kaos.

I got one originally from one of the other vendors and it was thin and flat (meaning not molded for the high hump).

I sent it back and got the mat you see there, which was thicker, large enough to trim all the edges, and molded for the floor. It was perfect (I kept the leftover pieces for making other small parts).
