72 Front Bumper

I'm in need of a new bumper and I didn't realize there were so many options. So far I've found Dynacorn, OER, United Pacific, and Goodmark. There may be others I haven't seen. So my question, since I don't want to pay more than I need to for a decent bumper: Is there any significant difference in quality between them? Do any of you have particularly good or bad things to say about any of the brands?

Thanks.

Re: 72 Front Bumper

I would recommend the Goodmark re-chomes over the re-pops. They were available at Rock Auto and others when I looked some time back. Find the part number and do some searching. Summit has always been a good source with affordable or free shipping.

I would love to get a rechromed original, but there are none on RockAuto and none available locally.

Pic is wrong, right part number. The A at the end designates it is a reconditioned bumper. 3 months out though.

Thanks. That part number pulls up on RockAuto as well, even though it didn't show up when I searched by vehicle. Of course, their shipping is insane - $192.99. But now that I have a good part number, I'll do some more searching.

Good advise if you want a quality long lasting bumper that fits from day one with no modification or hassle. I had both the front and rear bumpers re-chromed for my '57 Chevy 2 dr. sedan. Was not cheap but then again cheap is rarely good and good is rarely cheap. Nothing fits like an original part.

Swap meets, garage / yard sales, craigslist, maybe even a salvage yard. They still exist and some times a person gets lucky. Start asking around and keep an eye out for trucks maybe being parted locally. Let your local car/truck guys know you are looking for an original bumper. I found a pair of 15x8 CUCV 6 lug wheels using that method and they are hard to find. Good luck in your search.

Re: 72 Front Bumper

Was told by a Goodmark rep. the A after the part number means a premium bumper not a re-chromed OE bumper. Goodmark will re-chrome your bumper that you send them. Think lead time was 5-6 weeks, not sure of cost. Find a good chrome shop that you trust and send them an OE. I was satisfied with a shop in Brainard Minn.

Re: 72 Front Bumper

I'm not sure what brand GMC Paul's sells, but I purchased both my bumpers for my 72 from them and they fit perfectly and look better than decent. I'll say that the form is very good and the chrome finishes is good to very good. I bought these about 3 years ago and have learned that GMC Paul's carries good to great parts or they don't sell it.
