1972 GMC K1500 Green/White LWB One Owner

Well it was a one owner until I purchased this garage kept GMC in E. MT from the widow of the original owner, who was a WWII vet and mechanic. He purchased the truck locally in January 1972 and used it to trailer a fishing boat. The topper was added early so OEM paint remains on some of the bed wood. Rust is confined to the rocker panels and should be a straight forward fix - the cab corners and remainder of the truck is rust free and the paint is original save for one small area of the bed. It's a clean time capsule! I got a Hickey brush guard in the deal.

Not intending on a complete resto at this time. Just want to clean it up, repair the rust, maybe convert the interior to a Highlander plaid, and add OEM Spicer hubs. I swapped out the OEM steel wheels for later 4wd rally wheels w 33" BFGs, replaced the painted camper mirrors with a stainless set, and swapped the base side marker lights for a deluxe set. I'll keep the topper on the bed for the time being to help preserve the wood but am anxious to remove it and will likely add a tonneau cover for the sake of the wood.

A U-Haul trailer will accomodate a LWB truck but best to stay at or under 55 mph Interior is nice and original. Tempted to add a tach cluster and OEM am/fm radio. The Travel tanks each have sending units.

Uncut doors. The paint polished up nicely! A faded single stage beats a peeling clear coat.

Wow beautiful find for sure! The interior is pretty sweet too green rubber floor and the dash pad appears uncracked

What did you use to get the shine on that hood?

Thanks! Small crack and a little peeling in the pad but not bad overall. There's a guy I know locally who has a 69 K10 and does detailing at the local Chevy dealership. He polished the truck for me. I can ask but I suspect some buffing compound followed by wax. It's got a nice patina to it.

Thanks guys! I can't get another truck. No more looking on Craigslist. I'll post some updates here as I tinker with this truck a bit. It runs and drives really well.

Congrats Pete, I'm glad to see you pulled the trigger. That's a very nice addition to your corral. I wish you luck with your quest to stay off craigslist. ...LOL ... It would be nice if you would post a pic of your herd though.

Thanks guys! Dale - I'll get a pics of the herd soon, moving into my new house soon will gather them together over there. I'll keep the camper shell but would like to see pics with it off. Mike, I suspect it's insulated and was told it's heavy. The dual tanks and topper weigh the rear springs down,

How come you keep saying Eastern Montana but t has Anaconda plates? Or are those just some YOM plates you already had & stuck on it?

Just some YOM I had here at home. I have a matched set of truck plates correct for Flathead Co. (7) but MVD tells me these are not correct for 72 and have 69 tags so wouldn't let me put them into use sadly.

Thanks fellas - I like the camper too, maybe adding a leaf will bring the rear up just a little to even out the stance. Am planning on adding a snap-type tonneau cover at some point so to protect the wood but make use of the bed space for hauling.

Thanks guys! The original owner was a mechanic and he kept in excellent shape. The motor fires up immediately, purrs smoothly at idle, accelerates quickly, and drives straight. I just bolted on some tow hooks.
