Re: Emergency Brake Delete on Rear Drums?

One thing that the E-brake system does outside of being a parking/e-brake is, the arm rotates the rear shoe adjuster. Without this system, as the shoes wear, they will not get adjusted and you will slowly lose the effectiveness of the rear brakes. You would have to manually adjust them as they wear.

Re: Emergency Brake Delete on Rear Drums?

The E-brake lever is on the inside of the brake shoe. It is activated by the cable and pushes the strut rod forward applying the shoes to the drum. The adjustment of the brake adjuster is from all the other hardware that is attached on the front side of the shoe. (Springs and adjuster arm). It activates the adjuster when driving in reverse and applying the brakes. The weight of the vehicle going back and the brakes trying to stop the weight of the vehicle cause the adjuster arm to push down adjusting the shoes. If you take the drum off and force the shoes back by pushing them front to rear you can see how it works. The minds that think this stuff up blow my mind. I guess im just too simple! Lol! In short they are two separate systems and will function one without the other.

Re: Emergency Brake Delete on Rear Drums?

Sorry guys, I was thinking more of how some of the more modern systems work. I had cars/trucks that specifically said the e-brake would adjust the shoes. Others that used the reverse and apply brakes method. Honestly I hate drums and tend to convert everything to discs anyways. LOL

Car truck shop? Is that the name of the establishment? Do they ship parts as I'm in good old Utah.

Re: Emergency Brake Delete on Rear Drums?

I just flipped though the online catalog and they didn't seem to have the part. I have all the hard ware I need the lever that the e brake fits into inside the drum. It has a slot to slip the cable in and then it pins onto the back plate.

I think I know the part your talking about. Now I remember I had the same trouble finding them. So I went with 4 wheel disc.
I hate drums anyway.

Are the 64 components the same through 67? I'm just needing left and right e brake actuating levers, anti rattle bar and spring. Do you have pics?

Re: Emergency Brake Delete on Rear Drums?

The HO52 was not used beyond '72. You are likely looking at parts for a 12 bolt.
