rear air bag for 64 with coils

Quick question on bagging the rear of a 64 C10 with trailing arms and coils. Do you have to use brackets for the bags, or will they just bolt in place of the coil springs?

Thanks

With anything less than a step notch you will need a cup/bracket to make up the space between the frame and the lower trailing arm. Also you should at least use a bag plate on the lower trailing arm to evenly distribute pressure and prevent the 2-piece arm from wanting to split.

Thank you. that makes good sense about the lower 2-piece trailing arm

Re: rear air bag for 64 with coils

You just use a cage on the bottom of the bag which allows clearance for the air line and bolts. the top of the bag used a single bolt to locate and hold it at the top.....oops got it wrong. the cage is on the top of the bag and the single bolt on the bottom. If you want to go lower and eliminate the cage then it gets a little more involved , you have to use a single plate on the top, weld it and reinforce it to the frame, then drill the frame to allow the air line and bolt to go thru the bottom frame flange.......just depends on how low you want to go.....

Re: rear air bag for 64 with coils

I called up Pro Performance and they hooked me up with a simple set of bags and brackets. I don't think it was listed on the website but that was a few years ago. It didn't break the bank either.

If you plan on a c notch I would use these: http://www.azproperformance.com/Dead...63-72-C10.html

The standard brackets look like this: http://www.bcfab.com/Rear-Airbag-Bra...C10_p_449.html

Re: rear air bag for 64 with coils

Here's my old 63 C10..

I did all work on the truck. Bottom plates welded to the lower trailing arms and short upper cups. This truck has a c-notch so short cups needed instead of taller cups.
