What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

What color orange does everyone use to paint their gauge needles? Just wondering if y'all use a certain brand or color? Thanks

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

Check this thread from last year. Mine is post #14. As I said there, the thing I like about the paint I used, in addition to the color, is that it (as with the originals) is not a glossy paint.

I used Model Masters fluorescent Red. It is close, might be a shade to red.

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking about trying the testors orange paint. Small and easy to use with a brush.

I cut a slit in a piece of paper, slid it under the needle and gave it a shot of fluorecent orange paint. It turns out flat like original and doesn't have the reflection that a gloss paint would have. It almost looks like its glowing. It helps a lot at night, the needles really stands out. I used testors on my 69 and its not as easy to see as the fluorecent.

I use Dupli-Color DE1620 engine paint, not too glossy, very close to OG.

I agree. This is what I use as well. I got it at Michaels, and I would bet any craft store would carry it. It is as close to OEM as I have found.

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

I used some old Testors Model Master Fluorescent Orange paint and a small brush I had, that my dad used to paint his needles in his '74 C10 LWB. My paint was kind of old though, and I didn't have any good thinner, so my paint job was less than stellar. But behind the lens I have, it looks okay, better and easier to see than the faded white that they were previously.

I can tell you, but unfortunately there won't be any near you. It's a chain of about 32 stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and North Dakota called Mills Fleet Farm. They are the ultimate men's stores. Everything from auto supplies to paint, tools, hardware, building supplies, sporting goods, casual clothing, etc. They even have some auto dealerships in Minnesota.

It's a spray that I applied as AirSpeed described in post 10 above.

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

I searched and located these old posts as I am cleaning and installing a 7 gauge bezel. I used Rustoleum orange fluorescent spray paint found at home depot and it was an exact match for the needles. I only painted the tach and speedo needles here.

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

I ended up using a custom blend. I matched to the color of the needle bases and used a soft artist brush. 40drops Testor's Fluorescent Orange to one drop Testor's flat red. I did not overpaint the base area of the smaller needles, so you can tell how good the match is. I might come back & airbrush a final fine coat, who knows.

Many of the earlier suggestions were no longer available.

I used Rustoleum paint and it matches the original color and sheen very well. I tried lots of different paints before settling on that one. I think a spray paint is needed if you want it to look like the original paint, and it needs to be flat.

This Rustoleum color didn't match my reproduction tach perfectly. The tach is a little too red instead of orange. The Rustoleum does, however, match a couple of NOS gauges I have quite nicely.

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

I used a fluorescent orange paint I found at a craft store in their paint section. It worked out great because it was available in a small can, and I didn't have to buy a full sized one. I also used the slit paper trick to mask off the gauge(s) face(s).

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

I used a florescent paint on mine about 10 yrs ago. Didn't take too many years and the sun bleached the color out a fair bit.

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

I used the LMC needle paint and it looks great. Only problem is even though it comes in a small bottle there is enough paint in there to do like a thousand needles. If you lived in NJ I'd let you have it.

Re: What color orange do you use to paint gauge needles?

I have been searching.
There is a thread that used Testors Model paint.

They compared it too original, and it was Right. ??

This is just a Referance Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/39342927599...115e6675250cb1

Maybe someone remembers this??

A lot of those fluorescent marking paints don't last very long in the sun. It seems that they are designed to fade rather quick, so that marking sidewalks and paving wont be an eye sore very long.
