equipment use?
Hey, does anyone know what this is used for? I got it at a yard sale, guy said it is used in body shops?

After 20 years of seeing new product introductions from vendors all over USA for the collision industry I have to say I have never seen anything else even close to this... I can't even see how it would be used in a collision shop either...
I'm very interested in learning what it is used for exactly. What has me intrigued is the adjustable arm that crosses over... Following with interest!

Oh yes, me too. I have worked full time in the auto body industry since a week out of high school 1977. Been to trade shows, been a paint rep selling tools, I have never seen anything like it and can't figure out what it would be for.
Now, that isn't to say someone didn't make something that does something in a body shop. I worked for a guy who was a want a be Einstein and made all kinds of things that never made it into production, this could be something like that. Brian

The only thing that I can come up with is that it's a tool to help you put on doors or hoods or something by yourself. It doesn't look like anything that could "do" anything like pulling a dent or anything like that. But more "non power" kind of thing with that foam thing protecting paint while it held a door or something?
It looks like those black vert lines are foam covering the metal to protect it from scratching something. Brian

I don't think it looks home made. The curved pieces on he left vertical have very evenly spaced welds and the ends of the square tubing have plastic end caps. The adjustable arm only has a few inches of in and out adjustment. My guess is a jig for holding door skins.

Im curious about the two black zip ties.... why are they there?
Steck Tools mass produces tools made by technicians. They pay them a royalty too! This tool is one of a kind in my opinion... still has me guessing. I'm starting to wonder if it's for another purpose other than a collision shop...
