305 V6 starter help

I have a 1969 GMC C-15 305 V6 and my starter went out. So I got a new one from Advance Auto and it isn’t anywhere near close to being the same. I then called another store and all they had was the same part number. If anyone knows where I can get the correct starter for a 305 V6 I would appreciate the help.

Re: 305 V6 starter help

You could take your old one to a starter/alt shop & have them rebuild it
These parts guys probably don't know the difference between a 305 v-6 GMC & a 305 V-8 chev.

i second this. at least price it out. my starter went out in my dodge pickup and i took it to a guy to get it rebuilt and it ended up costing me 1/4 of the price as a new one.

Re: 305 V6 starter help

They are probably giving you one for a 305 SBC! Try a NAPA, most V-6's used a common GM medium truck starter with a cast iron nose that bolts to the bell housing, not the block. They are not too hard to find.
