Factory options; how much $ did they cost then?

Anyone have a sheet that tells what the individual factory options costs new 67-72?

I have looked for the data but cant find anything. I think it would be interesting to see what the options cost from base to loaded.

Here is my spid. The shortest list that money could buy!

Just wondering....

I've never seen such a small list on a SPID before.

Its a grower not a shower! LOL

Truth is my grandfather bought this truck new in 70 and it was a only needed to pull a hay trailer around a dairy to feed the cows. He wanted zero options for comfort or frills; a truck just exactly like the sort of guy HE was in life.

If he was alive today he would be livid about the amount of money I have just dropped at brotherstrucks to start getting her back in shape.

Here are your options priced out. A loaded truck could get over $5,000 real quick.

Ha, I like how someone added the 250. I didn't know it was an "option". Perhaps they wouldn't use the SPID to prime a pen in hindsight.

I think I've seen a list or two with options and cost on this website. .................Very cool Bruceman

The '69, '71 and '72 model year generic info packets in the GM Heritage Center archives includes pricing for all of the RPOs.

Haha! I just spent $2,500 at Brothers this week, it's amazing to think I could've purchased the truck for the same amount 47 years ago

Re: Factory options; how much $ did they cost then?

I have a dealer ordering book from '71 from Vegas to Vettes through light trucks. It's interesting to see how much the options are and what you could and could not get. I always wished I could have ordered one. I spec'd out trucks a few times but never ordered one. '77 was the first year, then a few times in the '80s. One time, in '92, I finally sat down and ordered just the truck I wanted as if I was ordering a '72.

Interesting thread. I was lucky enough to spec out and order three cars, a long time ago -- '68 Camaro RS, '69 El Camino SS, and a '71 Camaro RS -- back when I was young, single, and just maybe a bit foolish.

Re: Factory options; how much $ did they cost then?

But you also have to remember we made 80 cents an hour back then. Houses only cost 20,000. And a big loaf of bread was a quarter or 5 loaf for a dollar. A coca cola was a .05 and a .02 cents deposit on the glass bottle. So put that in prospective. So 2500. For a truck was alot of money. But they only financed them for 3 years. Now a truck is 50,000. A house 300,000. What a difference 50 years makes.

Re: Factory options; how much $ did they cost then?

Considering my truck was only "optioned" with a heater (which was supposed to be standard) and blue vinyl trim, I'd hope the guy that bought my no frills truck got one heck of a deal, but he probably paid close to sticker.

Re: Factory options; how much $ did they cost then?

Bought my first new car in 62, then new chevelle in 66. In 69 bought a new stripped down 1/2 tone, It was 2160.00 plus tax and title. Ordered a new Elcamino in 72 w/ big block, 3800.00 and in 76 ordered a new 1/2 SB 4 wheeler, 350 with optional dual exhaust, Cheyenne package, sport wheels, tilt, cruise, automatic, front bumper guards. It was 5300.00 plus tax and title. Money was not like today, I think about 2.25 an hour back in 1969. Bought my first house for 5500.00 and it was liveable, moved right in. I don't know how people afford these new trucks. My brother just bought an 2018 Ford Platinum crew cab loaded up and it had a 65000.00 sticker. I think I got along better financially back then then now.

In the 67 data books The C42 Deluxe air heater is listed as a no cost option. (The C41 thrift air heater was no longer available). If a customer chose to delete it(C42), they would receive a $48.26 credit. If it wasn't deleted then it came standard at no cost.

Just for fun here is a listing of the suggested prices for C10's in 1967. This is from a data book used by Steven Nudelman, who worked at R.R. Reiter Chevrolet in Great Bend Kansas. I have some sales material from back in the day that has his name in it. I bought them as a lot. This book doesn't have his name in it, but the handwriting matches. Notice: List price + Factory D&H + Mfr's Sgt'd Dlr D&H = Mfr's Sgt'd Retail. From some of the other notations Steven made in passenger car books, I believe the handwritten prices are the discount price from Mfr's Sgt'd retail price and not just from list price. So a(CS10704) $2114.00 Retail price truck would cost $1735.00 from Steven. Sense this was his personal book that he would have kept in his pocket I imagine the handwritten price is the lowest he would/could go. Of course all dealers sold below list/retail price. Steven also had notations in the passenger car books where he discounted every single option. I'm sure he would do that with truck options and that every dealer would also discount everything they could to make sales and be completive. So just because we have these books that tell how much everything cost, it doesn't mean that's how much everyone paid.

Yep, mine was a shortbed, stepside, 250 I-6 3spd.

That's really neat info! I bought a 2015 new last year and ended up 7K "below sticker" but damn, I was literally there all day.

$5k for a loaded new truck? I can see the entire dealership just roaring with laughter as you walk out, hanging your head in shame. These days. No they want you to sell your house and live in the truck.

Google says that adjusted for inflation, his dad paid something like $18,500 for the truck. So how much has a base single cab truck really gone up? I wonder what the cheapest full size truck you can get from the dealership costs.
