Re: Vibration @ 50 mph

Where does the return spring for the parking brake linkage go on a 54-3100 ?
I don't see it in the book. On the cross-frame bar ?
Thanks

The shoe with the least lining always goes in front, the one with the most always goes in back and some budget lining came with two different compositions that were marked primary and secondary. kind of like a tan lining and a gray lining.
Well, as maybe suspected .... both primary shoes were on one side, and both secondary on the other. Landing pads are pretty groovy and the contamination from the rear was a bit worse than initially observed.
New seals and shoes on the wayyyyyyyy.

Now the return springs ... pri and sec look identical, same color (blue), same wire gauge and all. Were they the same on these models ? I saw no mention in the shop manual of them being different.
Thanks again.

Rear axle seal installation

Also, I think the axle seals were installed backwards.
It had the dual lip leather CR seals with the springs to the dry side.
I always thought that the springs go to the wet side.
Which is correct ?
And I'm still trying to determine where the return spring for the parking brake goes ..... anyone have an original setup to help ?
Thanks.

Thanks dsraven.

And I see no mention of the pullback springs being different on this model. Just says to put the pri on first, then the sec.

All going back together today.

Thanks for the help.
