transmission swap help

Im installing a TH350 on my inline 6. It had a 3 on the tree. Ive already swapped the column and removed the crossmember. My question is, do i have to replace the flywheel? will the Torque converter work with the original flywheel? I took off the flex plate and all that. Can some one lead me in the right direction?

Re: transmission swap help

You need a flexplate for an automatic and a flywheel for a standard trans.
Did you get a flexplate with the turbo 350?

Re: transmission swap help

No I didn't get one. I guess I'll need a new starter too.

Re: transmission swap help

You need to match your starter to your flexplate too.
There’s a 153 tooth and a 168 tooth flexplate.
Also you might need to remove the pilot bearing from the back of the crank. Sometimes it will interfere with the converter.
And use the correct knurled shank starter bolts.

Re: transmission swap help

Your new starter will bolt to the bottom of the block instead of the bellhousing. Like previously mentioned 13 or 14 inch flexplate will determine the starter. You also cannot use the same crankshaft/ flywheel bolts. The flexplate bolts are shorter and must be used so they do not interfere with the block or oil pan

Re: transmission swap help

Be sure to read up on checking starter gear/flex plate clearance and shimming the starter.

You will also need to connect the vacuum modulator to the intake manifold.

If your 3 on the tree column is in good shape, it has some resale value.
