enamel paint ?

Was enamel paint always acrylic enamel or was it just enamel say 20 years ago

Plain old enamel. You can add a hardener too. Tractor paint is pretty much the same. I worked for a couple places that did Body shop supply when I was a kid. Enamel was a standard line. Acrylic enamel was pretty new. We still sold lacquer.

alkyd enamel...... alkyd resin based. Rustoleum and One Shot paint are still Alkyd enamel

synthetic enamel

acrylic enamal

Urethane enamal

...Acrylic Lacquer

You can google automotive paint history etc
