gas fireplace techs. thermopile
I did all the tests and found my thermopile doesn,t have the millivolts I need to keep fire on. All the shops here want 100.00 for one but online they range from from 10.00 to 30.00 . what brand is a good one ? All the shops say they can order me one but I can do that too. Can,t find anything online on reviews . Is a older Hunter wall heater from 1997. Just reaching out ,can,t find any help from the shops here, have to make a service call at a 90.00 per hour

Re: gas fireplace techs. thermopile
Take your valve apart and check for weak or broken wires on the solenoid. How did you check the output of the thermopile? You need a high-impedance VOM to check them out, since their output is so small.

Re: gas fireplace techs. thermopile
Best to clean the thermopile first and gas feed pipe and flame points, then set your gas flow with the ohm meter hooked up till you see 300 to 450 MV and it should be good to go.

Re: gas fireplace techs. thermopile
We mostly use Honeywell for our thermopiles. Honeywell calls there’s powerpiles most are rated for 750 millivolts. You need a good harsh blue flame on them in order to produce enough power to open your valve. I’ll use a small hand held torch to get them a little hotter for test purposes.

Re: gas fireplace techs. thermopile
I recently bought some parts from Fire-parts.com. They even had a service manual for my fireplace online, which I downloaded for free.

Re: gas fireplace techs. thermopile
I did all the maintenance described and use a meter set on millivolts I get 440 with pilot on and only 110 with fireplace on .Tested my friends and he gets 230 with gas fireplace on. Mine stays lit and goes out 2-3 times a day. This is a new cheap 10.00 thermopile from Earthstar. Good flame hitting T.pile nice. Thinking of trying another T.pile , so many to choose from online
