89 chevy 350 5 speed manual with a buick 1st gen turbo?!

so me and my buddy picked up an 89 c1500 short bed single cab with a 350 and a 5 speed for $350 this weekend. we have a turbo set up that we were told was off of a 1st gen buick grand national he bought for $40, and I threw in a 650 edelbrock carb for ****s and giggles that I bought for $70. we both think the price is worth it after finding a place for cheap pipe, we're just not sure exactly what we need to do to retro fit it on and its all for fun. trucks beat to crap lots of "speed holes" from weathering....and from a day of shooting at the tailgate (after taking it off of course) shoots flames out the ass from a valve we think and over heats like hell. just wondering if anybody could tell us a little more on what exactly we need to do to get this to even run once and build boost.

I'm trying to decipher your post, and this is what I got. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

You have an old 89 truck that's beat to hell.

You have a turbo from a Buick Grand National.

You have an Edelbrock 650 CFM Carb.

The Truck is really beat up.

The Valve is shooting flame (From a valve? Where is the flame exiting, the exhaust, valve covers, exhaust manifold, or out of the Throttle body?)

The engine overheats (I'm assuming a bad radiator, clogged thermostat, or bad water pump)

You want to put a turbo on the truck (with the Edelbrock? Or over the Throttle body?)

Just want to be clear on what you're asking to help everyone else who would like to lend you some advice!

Re: 89 chevy 350 5 speed manual with a buick 1st gen turbo?!

sorry been a long day of work
the flame comes out of the exhaust pipe which we assume is a bad valve. not sure why its overheating havent even thought of taking a look at it. yes we would like to turbo the truck assuming we would have to take the thottle body off and make it work for carbuerator.

Doubt it will make much boost feeding an engine 1.9L bigger. You need to custom fab up exhaust to run threw the turbo, that alone makes this project not worth the effort. Then you need a carb hat to pressurize the entire carb with the boost. That's the starters.

Actually, it would over boost with a bigger engine. More exhaust means more turbo speed and more boost. Which leads to other problems.

You have a fuel injected engine with a computer controlled ignition. That is another issue. Plus you have to have a fuel regulator connected to the turbo or your fuel pressure will be less than the boost and you will have no gas.

I agree that is just worth it unless you had the parts laying around and then it's not going to be easy to get it running decent.
