Seems like you're getting it figured out.
It can take a little while to get answers sometimes.

Yeah it's coming right along. Like I said I had the measurements of how it was before I cut it. I was just asking to make sure it was right. But I ended up just bolting the clip on to get it figured out. I have gotten a lot of inspiration on this board. Lot more than others. Seems to be more support here than bashing like other sites. Someone messes up, instead of dogging them, everyone shows support and then offers solutions. That's one thing I love about this forum. I hope noone takes that out of context when I said I didn't get an answer.. Nothing was meant by it.

Thanks man. I actually just bought it two weeks go. Enjoying every minute of it too. I've built a pair of Impala's and most recently was going to build a 37' chevy but i've always had an itch to build a truck. So i sold the 37 and immediately found this one in Iowa. I'll start a build thread today with pics and details.

Re: '59 Apache "Low and Mean" long term project

Question on the clip. Should I add some reinforcing plates where the truck frame is welded to the clip or will it be strong enough as it is with the boxing done?

Re: '59 Apache "Low and Mean" long term project

The way you have it overlapped will work as long as your welds are good. If you have any doubts it wouldnt hurt to add some reinforcement.

I know I got good penetration cause it lit up on the inside of the frame. I may still consider a plate on the outside I'll take a closer look once I get it all lined out.

Mine has plates over the seam as a reinforcement. It can't hurt to add them and wont add any real weight.

You are making some nice prgoress! Boxing plates look real good, but I would add something to the outside as well, better to be safe than sorry. Keep the updates coming!

I originally wanted to do a grill similar to a custom 50's Merc with floating bumper gaurds, but I didn't have the money to do it. Although still not having put mine back together, the thought of an original chrome grill seems very nice, as I think a sparkely smile gives these trucks an amazing look.
nice grill. reminds me of the movie madmax. with Mel Gibson

Re: '59 Apache "Low and Mean" long term project

Ok update. I found a set of facory doors I will be going to pick up when I return home June 7. I have ordered a bolt kit for the body and ordered rear cab corners. next will be front cab corners and fender patches. I am looking at the weder series four link and using coilovers. Anyone used this before? I know I have been neglecting this project but I have been more focused on my race car over the last year. Also need some lower door hinges if anyone has any laying around. mine are rotted out.

Re: '59 Apache "Low and Mean" long term project

I have picked up a couple good solid doors, a inner and outer passenger side front fender, lower door hinges, a factory grille, rear cab corners, and a complete new bolt kit. Also got disk brakes for the 9". Plan to install ls1 front brakes which I already have. Picked up a set of 22" wheels 10.5" in back and 8" in front. Also have an ls1 I plan to stroke, already have pistons and rods just need crank and I plan on putting a 4l80e behind it.

I have cut rivets and punched them out on the rear part of the frame. Now enough rambling from me here are some pics for you guys to salivate over. Give me some feedback fellas.

Few progress pics. I have now got the driver's side step in and the lower hinge pocket completed. I have some newer pics on my phone that I can't seem to get off right now. I posted a link above with pictures you can take a look at too. Also got the wheels I will be using. Let me know what you think of the position of the wheels and the look.
