Headliner in a non headliner truck?

Has anyone had any luck installing a headliner in a truck that was not so equiped? can the slots for the trim be cut out with a die grinder or can you cut the tabs off the trim and and still have the liner held up with just glue and the trim screws?

just did this

last week. Previously, I had a headliner glued up there without the trim pieces. Last week I put up the trim pieces and that kind of sucked. What I did was ground off the clip pieces on the trim, then I glued them in place. Then put the screws in place. I would reccomend using spray especially for headliners. I have used a few different spray adhesives that did not work very well. Just my two pence
