Smoken....If you have a low compression BBC 8-1 or so a blower would be kewl. If you keep the boost down. A cast crank is ofcourse a time bomb with a blower if you race it. To run high 12s you only need around 400HP(true HP) not DD2000 or magazine HP. A nice 10-1 hydraulic roller 454 or 468 can get you there.

I spent too much time washing trucks and I only got one pass tonight! It went 6.63 spinning pretty bad only a 1.52 short time!

I took my truck to the track last night for some testing and went a 7.13 @ 96.15 w/a 1.57 60' in the 1/8. This was a motor pass. I have a '66 Chevy lwb with a 421 sbc, TH350, truck 12-bolt w/4.88s @ 3820 lbs. I have an NX Gemini quad plate on the motor, but haven't tried it at the track as of yet. With the amount of wheelspin that I had last night, I'm considering trying a P.G. trans. to calm some of the spinning and also to be able to spray the motor hard out of the hole. Do any of you guys run a 'glide, and if so, did you notice much of a difference from running a 3-spd.? I know most people will say that a 3-spd. would be a better choice in something this heavy, and I guess I could take some gear out of the rear. I have a set of 4.10s in the shop that I could try.

Yea, it's a tad heavy for a glide. How tall of a tire do you run? I run 4.86's but I run 1/4 mile. I have 32" tall tires. While hitting the N20 You need to load the engine...lower SLR (staring line ratio)(1st gear ratio times rear gear ratio)will help. With the stroke of your SBC I would look at taller tires or 4.30 gear ratio while spraying.

did you know that you can get a 200# loss in weight by running a fatman front end. that 200#s off the front. so i have read anyways. i am goning to atempt to build my own front cross member i dont think it will be that hard. does anybody know what the widest rack n pinin is. i mean out of a differant car or truck.

Every time I look at the front I know it...It drives me nuts... We were looking at a nova front half...should be pretty simple to swap. I just spent a ton on drop spindles and front disc's.

Jim, I run a 31" tall tire. You are correct; you definitely need a lower starting line ratio when spraying. I guess I'm trying to figure out the better way to achieve it. I'll probably end up putting the 4.10s in it and trying that.
Talking about the Fatman front-ends, that is also something I'd like to do. It's going to have to wait a while, though. Got too many other things to buy first.

This is a cool thread, BTW...

I run a glide with a 4.30 gear! My truck has been real fast with the previous owner! I'll get there one day! best so far of a 6.05!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd say that 6.00s in an old Chevy truck that can be street-driven is pretty quick!
Since I already have the 4.10 gear set, I'll probably try them first and see what happens.

My truck is barely streetable it has a race weight glass nose and doors! It also is 14 to 1 so gas would be rough!

Your truck is for sure at another level, Jim's truck has to be pretty close also. I'd like to get my roll bar, few more race parts, hood etc. maybe alluminum bed and that will be it for me. 10's is as far as I'm going, can't be bothered with all the hastle of 9's, next time my motor is out I'll likely change it into a 540. I want to run low 10's on motor, loose the nitrous ( it will be there for show ) and at the weight I'm at going to need a bit more oomff.

Maybe fuel injection.

I just got my motor back and cant wait to go play..Sold my nova streetcar and havent raced anything in 2 yrs so I going nuts reading these threads..anyway What are you using for a driveshaft..and do you still have the center support bearing???

Depends who your talking to. Mine is custom made, 1350 yolks, 3" 2-peice, with a heavy duty support and a splined rear section with a slip yolk.

Mine is a 3"DOM custom job. I used a long tailshaft th400 and move the engine back 4 inches to be able to go one piece.

I have a 4-link setup, it has a custom cross member and the support fastens side to side, if that makes sense to you.

409biscayne...'67, 11 second quarter @ about 120 mph and was told not to come back until he had a roll cage. 350 4-bolt on gas. Neat truck but the body panels did not fit...now I know why...too many wheel stands...LOL! This truck has been for sale ever since I can remember!

Franks72, I changed my driveshaft from the factory 2-piece to a 1-piece. I had twisted a couple of slip-yokes on the 2-piece and had gotten tired of that, so I had a 3 1/2" 1-piece shaft built. I had to do some clearancing to the hole in the crossmember that held the carrier brg., but nothing major. Pretty well a bolt-in swap.
