Are you sure there isn't a delay in there somewhere? What is the exact sequence that you see?

After I jump it I get the 1 blink (check engine light) then 2 rapid ones for 3 times. Then it goes to 4 rapid blinks, stops then repeats 4 rapid blinks. 44 trouble code?

Think it's possible my cat is restricted ?

The truck is factory original, 18,000 original miles.

Sounds like code 44 which is lean condition. Check for exhaust leaks, bad O2 sensor, plugged fuel filter. Mine was a plugged fuel filter.

Thanks!
I changed the fuel filter, think I'll go ahead and buy an O2 sensor and try that.

Is it possible I don't have a O2 sensor ? I just put the truck on the lift and I don't see one any where on the exhaust pipe or on any one of the 3 muffler/cat converters. Could it be on the exhaust manifold ? Jeez...

This truck has the optional 15,000lb GCW option. Maybe it didn't have one?

Mine was on the back of the driver's side exhaust manifold.

Well...same thing, O2 sensor did not do anything. I suspect the fuel pump but I always thought they either worked or not. It's hard to start sometimes, it will fire up and be rough idle and die, sometime it won't start at all and then later it will. It surges when I get it running and drive down the road and the ck engine light comes on. Couldn't find any vacuume leaks. Has new plugs.
Dang....

Also check fuel pressure.

Just ordered 2 fuel pumps and strainers, OEM GM replacements about 100 bucks. I've long suspected the fuel pump, we'll see
Thanks

I would think code 44 would be 4 long blinks and 4 short blinks. I think you may have a code 4, whatever that is.

Eventually I'll change enough parts to fix it

On a side note, I'm trying to head on up to South Portland,ME for the summer, can't get out of this heat fast enough
