Dodge Dually Rear End

I've heard of people switching their rear axle out with a Dodge. I have a basically free 1980 Dodge dually truck to pick parts from if I want. I have an 63 C20 with an Eaton HO-52 rear end now and I was going to make it a dually with longer lug studs. But an axle might be a better swap. I want disc brakes too. Thoughts? Anything work from the front?

Re: Dodge Dually Rear End

The Dodge should have a Dana 70 which is a good differential. However with the size of the axle tubes, a u-bolt that big will not fit thru the holes in the trailing arms. There is nothing on the front of that Dodge to help you with converting toi front disc brakes.

You would be better off finding a '71-'87 C30 to use as a donor. That way you will have everything you need, front to rear.

Thank you sir. I heard they were good rear ends but wasn't sure if it was worth it.
Then this pops up on Craig's List. It's like a dream come true. It's only been posted 9 hours so I'm hoping he still has it. I'll find out in the morning. It's 3 hours away but so worth it. I could use those wheels too.
