Re: Who Knows Poop?
I chase bears out of my apple trees at my cabin. They usually pretty easy going and run off. But I have learned that you don't want to be between momma and the cubs...

Re: Who Knows Poop?
Every fall I watch my local tractor supply parking lot and wait for the apple , pear, peach, and plum trees along with the grape vines to start loosing their leaves and I buy them all at $5.00 each ( Normally they are $21.99 each ) usually 15-25 and we have been slowly building a fruit orchard on a budget , My neighbor tells me there have never been so many deer crossing his land . I'm sure the occasional roaming Black bear won't be far behind .We're building our last house on that property and my hope is after I'm gone those trees will still be there and someone will say "Yeah, Some Grumpy old man planted all these trees ... UH OH , Look out here comes the BEAR !"

Re: Who Knows Poop?
We have persimmon trees in those woods by the poop. There are a few apple trees hanging on, too. It was once a farm/homestead and there is an old foundation back in an overgrown lane turned deer path I walk (I keep it clear, deer don't mind the multiflora rose like I do)
Now that I confirmed my suspicion, I'm going to start bringing up bear to see if anyone else has seen evidence... or a bear. I appreciate the help. You guys really know your shi...ucks, look what time it is. Gotta go

Re: Who Knows Poop?
My first thought was bear as well. First we play name that part, then progress to name that turd. This is why this is my favorite website.
You guys know what rabbit and dog poop looks like, so I have nothing to contribute, pardon the pun.

It would appear that racoon squaints tend to have a tubular form with blunt ends. Otter is generally irregular shaped cords with tapered or blunt ends and can sometimes be amorphous blobs. While you're enjoying dinner, I'll add this -- appearances aside, size matters (hmmm, where have I heard that before?). Having seen numerous examples in my years of wandering, I believe the pic in post #1 is too big for a raccoon. Kinda on the smallish side for a bear, but not all bear piles are big. Also, even a large boar starts his life as a small cub. I used to see more bear sign, and the occasional critter, on my daily morning trail walks with one of our dogs. Last year the feed was real poor and none were around. Hoping for a better crop this year -- I enjoy seeing more wildlife out there.

Re: Who Knows Poop?
Gotta know your sh!t to be a good tracker. I tracked Roosevelt Elk right up to their butts in Fern Canyon, CA. Sometimes it helps to look up as well. I was tracking fresh hoof prints and poop. I had just gotten into tracking and learned a lot that day. Fortunately I didn't spoke the heard.

Are you sure you don't have a new neighbor that has moved in ? Just add a hunter orange hat and coat and this guy would walk right passed you in the woods ...

Ask Cheborneck, he'll know and then I can tell you "Good thing we don't step in it!"
If you got that, you're older'n dirt.
