Re: Snowmageddon headed to the South
Back when I was skiing 14 hours a day I had more cold tolerance....seems so anyway.

Re: Snowmageddon headed to the South
It's seems the stiff wind has finally stopped here.
Last nite was predicted to be the coldest nite we were gonna get. This morning my therm had a low temp of -2 during the nite but the wind had died off last evening. Sat morning the therm. Had a low of -3 and the wind was still whipping around. I spent Fri evening toying in the garage. I got too really see my garage furnace do its thing in temps this low. It was awesome being in my shack of a garage with the doors bouncing around in the wind and it staying at 55-60* It'll get so much better once I get them doors sealed up good . One thing I noticed as years go by. Layering up and moving about all day in those layers really kicks my bum anymore. I wake up hurtin tough the next day. Must be a combo of the cold and moving about in the restricted layers it could be ole' Arthur kicking me too. Or is it that I rather be in a sleeveless t shirt and camo shorts out in the wonderfully warm/hot sunshine and i dont feel the same affects the next morning. I enjoyed skiing before I met the wife. She is a roller skater and not a outdoorsy gal so it's been a long while for me. We had a joke of a mountain just down the road from me called blue marsh ski. It was a cool site on the way too work in the winter mornings. I would crest and desend the next mountain north that is at a much higher elevation you would get a clear view of them making snow 7-8 mi. Away down on the ski mountain since they always had it so lit up. Only thing that hill was good for was tubeing. I had a friend back in school that worked there and in the summer he would take us the hills and trails in the trucks that was fun too.

Re: Snowmageddon headed to the South
I hope this ends soon also. Pipes burst on my road this morning. A friend's water was off yesterday when the pipe under his yard froze.
I want to go on a parts buying trip soon and I'd prefer it not be so cold out. My garage had a coal stove at one point....it has no heat now but if I ever get it renovated maybe that would be a possibility. |

Now in the cold, there are more layers a person can put on. The cold takes some getting used to and most people don't care for it, so you aren't alone. I am curious though.....do you still live in Detroit? |

Re: Snowmageddon headed to the South
I like that you can layer up to be comfortable in the cold. Can't take enough off when it's hot. 90 degrees is too hot naked. My big comparison is you can lay around all day in the heat but can't sit still without freezing when it's cold.

Re: Snowmageddon headed to the South
A lot of it is what one is used to and how fit they are. Age and injury are factors also. The human body can get used to most anything.

Re: Snowmageddon headed to the South
Yes, I know all that. And clothing makes all the difference in the world, too. I'm saying every year it drops below freezing and I get used to it and every year it hits 90 and I never get used to that. Also, 90 is only 20 degrees warmer than room temperature and is a lot more uncomfortable than 20 degrees cooler at 50. Freezing is twice as far from room temp as 90.

Dang Tim. That snow is both beautiful and depressing at the same time.

Re: Snowmageddon headed to the South
That was a big one. I love it when it snows like that. It forces the world to take a much needed break. Just enjoy getting back to appreciating the basics. It always goes away

No problem doing that... heh heh. You know me. I'm very protective of this site and all my friends here. Sneaky little S.S.O.B.s (Scammin' Sons)
It was kinda weird seeing this thread back to the top in April, although weather has been anything but spring like. I did see flurries off and on all day yesterday. And I know last week MN had a blizzard. The Hanoi 10-40 was another red flag
