Re: Selling truck with no title- Texas
I live in Texas. My take: Buying an old vehicle without a title is legal. It is not like the vehicle does not have a title, it is simply not in the sellers possession. And, the tax office purges records every so often. So, they cannot even find the title, but that does not mean it is untitled. So, the bonded title route is the remedy and if buying a vehicle without a physical title in hand was illegal, why would the bonded title process exist?

Re: Selling truck with no title- Texas
Just DO NOT invest money into whatever is bought w/o a title until you have all the steps/process completed & the state recognizes it is legally yours.
I know of more than one guy that's bought a vehicle & had a receipt/Bill of Sale on the transaction that turned out to NOT be from the 'true' owner thus negating the transaction & complicating the bonded title process. The last guy I spoke to about a situation like this was a guy from my G-body adventures. He bought a car & got a B.O.S for the deal. At a later date he was notified by another guy that it was HIS vehicle & he had a title to authenticate ownership. No recourse from the 'seller' as he disappeared w/the $$. The guy had no choice but to relinquish possession & chalk it up to a life lesson.
