If you go LSx in the future, you won't regret it.

Guess I'll give an update from the GG show here. Took Bruiser, it ran good, got rained on (first time), and had fun. I also used it as a parts truck to get some parts for No-buck (is that ironic)

I picked up a glove box and gas cap for no buck at the show. I was going to get a 8 ball shift know after thinking about it, but then couldn't find the place that was selling it on Sunday....maybe they had already packed up.

I also got a exhaust flapper valve (heat riser thing) from Teeitup the other day. I got it installed with new gaskets, but still didn't quiet the exhaust down like I thought it would. Oh well.

Got a stereo (JVC CD player with speakers) that hopefully I'll get in this week.

Got something else up my sleeve....stay tuned

It's a '91 LWB; 350/700r4/3.42 truck. The tranny is slipping.

My plan for right now is to swap over the tbi 350. That will get me a few things: TBI, serpentine belt drive system, hopefully cruise control (going to be a little money to get that to work since the 4 speed doesn't have VSS), and an AC compressor.

Then I hope to move the A/C system over too. It seems like I read somewhere on here where someone else did this too, so I'll have to do some research. Taking a quick look, it looks like it should fit. The reciever? is on the engine side of the firewall, and pretty much everything else is under the dash. If I can't find a write up on how to do it, I'll make one. One negative to this is this is an R-12 system, so I'll probably convert it to R-134 in the process.

Oh, might swap in the bench seat and chin spoiler too.

Then I'll probably take out the rearend and tranny and save them for some other project down the road and part out the rest of the truck. I don't think the TBI will be much of an issue with my experience with installing both a TPI and LSx engine in one of these trucks, but we'll see.

The engine probably has 150k miles on it, so I'm thinking I may freshen up the stock 350 block, add vortec heads and a vortec tbi intake and put it back in...but that's way down the road. Never the less, I'll have an extra 350 on the engine stand.

Oh and while I'm at all the fun, I'll go ahead and put in an electric fan (grand cherokee) just cause I can.

I don't know about smoking...$800. I figure I can part it out for close to that after I take my parts.....so in the end I hope it will be free.

The bench seat fits great. I put one from a 1990 K1500 in my 69 K10 project truck and it looks like it belongs there.

Put a cam in that TBI 350 for sure. The stock one is unbelievably small with well under .400" lift. The vortec truck roller cam would be a nice choice to go with the vortec heads.

I would go with a carb pattern Vortec intake and run a TBI adapter on it. The GM vortec TBI intake is ridiculously expensive and isn't than good for performance. I don't think anybody else makes one. It would also allow you to run a 4-bbl throttle body or even a carburetor on there later if you decide to make some changes.

Good information to know. I'll have to look into it more when the time comes. For now I think I'll stab the engine in, in its stock configuration (same idea/method I used for the 5.3L) to ease any trouble shooting.

Over the last few days I've been working on some "quality" improvements. I tightened down the fenders and front clip to reduce rattling, wiggled the cab a little so the hood/fenders/grill line up a little better. Then I installed the door seals (glue on type that I pulled off of Bruiser) and re-installed my tach.

Then I went to the midwest truck nationals today. My father-in-law drove No buck while I drove Bruiser. I haven't driven no-buck many miles, so I made sure I had my tool set with me and figured if something happened we could make a run to a parts store or something.

Well probably about 130 miles total today and No-Buck ran without any problems. My father in law said it seemed to cruise a little better at 65 than 70, so thats pretty much where he kept it at.

Then when I got home I had a few things waiting for me.

And a new power steering gearbox. It will be awhile till I get the power steering gear box on since I'm going out of town for work on Monday-Wednesday, then going on vacation on Friday for about a week. Plus, I ordered a new pitman arm for it too that hasn't showed up.

yeah, we still only have one plate in KS

I had a set of WA plates for my 68, but never got them put on, and sold them before I moved.

I have one great plate for a WA car. Stamped with a 1957 date and has the metal date tab that fits over it with 1963 on it. Great for a 57 Chevy or split window Vette or 409 Impala.

As I posted earlier, I took No-buck and Bruiser to the Midwest truck nationals. And came home with a trophy. A trophy for No-buck!

I don't know if I should be excited or disappointed or what. I mean I have a lot more time and A LOT more money into Bruiser, yet it didn't win anything. I don't know why or what their scoring was based on. No buck got 3rd in 60-69 Modified class.



When I got home from the show (only took bruiser today, cause I can't drive two trucks myself) I had to run to the hardware store and stopped to get gas in No-Buck. Well with driving back and forth to work and then about 130 miles yesterday, it got 13.7mpg. I didn't think that was too back considering the timing is just set by ear and 1405 edelbrock carb. I remember in college with my 72 (327/TH350/3.08) I barely got 12 mpgs with all the tuning setup correctly.

Went on vacation and then I got a little work done.

I installed a new CD player and speakers in the door (dash was already cut and one door was already cut) Good to have some tunes.

Installed a new power steering gear box and pitman arm. Had a few snafus, but I got it figured out. Drives SO much better now that it isn't floating all around because of the slop in the system.

Finally I got my new Sunpro tach installed. This one works, unlike the summit racing one that I temporarily installed a few weeks ago.

Now I need to return some stuff (tach, old gear box, loaner tools) to get some cash back.
