Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10

I used to HATE those bumpers. Now: they are growing on me. I like them.
Whatever you do, please don't just throw them away.

And WC mirrors are so nice on any truck, very unique these days. Great base for a project, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mike. Sometimes more experienced members get a little overzealous when they see a nice original part that they can use. No problem mentioning what you paid for your truck at all.

Yes, there are a lot of experienced builders on here that are more than willing to share their knowledge.....

Ok, thanks!

I think I got a pretty fair deal. Paid $7,500 for the truck. Came with wood bed rail sideboards and spare rims/tires, new door seals, manuals, etc...
So... the big question. How did I do? Fair deal, Great Deal, Robbed Me, Steal of a deal...?

I’d say that’s a great deal. It’s hard to find them as preserved as yours.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10

I think that's a pretty good deal. I paid a little less for mine but I don't think it was as clean as yours overall. Mine needed a new bedside from a fender bender a long time ago.

For the rear bumper, you could always go with one of the smaller bumpers. Mine came factory with a nice low profile step bumper. I originally planned on ditching it for the ever popular sport bumper, but then I realized how useful mine was and it started to grow on me.

Hey Mike, I just posted on your welcome thread. I have friends in your area and get over that way every month or two. Welcome.

Don't worry, you never made a single mention of selling parts. It was the guys here who know the rules already but can't help their comments. I do the same as you...keep what I pull to keep it all together. Plenty of orphan parts out there looking for a home.

Do you hit Mason-Dixon when you run the Camaro? BTW, nice truck!!

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10

Welcome to the forum and nice truck.
On the pricing, I'd see say you did fine...particularly for PA where there are less examples of these around.
$7500 for a solid, unmolested, V-8/327 truck is right in the 'acceptable' zone...no worries.
Its increasingly difficult to find these trucks where they haven't been badly messed with ...on so many levels from drivetrains to metal flake steering wheels, to 9" diameter tachometers, etc...lol.
You did fine, truck looks great and you will have a lot of fun with it....when you start with them in that condition and readiness.

Again, welcome...lots of good info and help here.

All good

Haven't seen many of those small step bumpers, I kinda like it!
Another option for me to consider... Doubt anyone is reproducing that version though!

Thank you - I thought it was a fair deal, seller wasn't complaining - neither was I

I'm Mike, Gearhead, musclecar enthusiast, who drag races his 98 Camaro SS every other weekend or so... but enough about me...

Here is a couple pictures of my just bought 1968 C10 Long Bed (wooden floor) pickup. Been sitting in a coworkers garage for the last 15 years... So it was loaded on a flatbed and brought to my local garage to go over everything, freshen all fluids, gas tank flushed, complete tune-up, brakes checked and good general going over to get her road ready once again in the next week or two.

Paint is a repaint done by the original owner back in the early 80's. has had a dual exhaust added by previous owner, and now shows 118k miles being racked up on the 327-4bbl, Auto, 12-bolt.

Interior will need some TLC, new seat cover, dash pad, rubber floor mat...

Body appear solid, with minor rock chips along fender edges/bottoms showing a tiny bit of surface rust. Solid truck all around.

I prefer the sleeper look, so don't take offense If I say "No" to adding 20's, or lowering it 5" or adding chrome... Do plan for a "standard" rear bumper to drop off the big azz step bumper.

Open to comments, ideas, watch-out-fors, etc...

Mike
Welcome to the board! Happy to see another 505 green truck guy out there. Mine's a '72 C20. Grandpa's old farm truck. I love it and it's a constant job working on it. Wouldn't have it any other way!

Welcome, and to echo what others have said, that looks like a real nice truck you got there. I too would have to ditch that step bumper, but I agree you'd be wise to hold onto anything you take off. You're a drag racer so you might appreciate what I'd do, which is put some wider wheels on it with the stock hubcaps so you you can fit some wider rubber on it. I wouldn't drop it down on the ground with 20" wheels. I'm just not a fan of that look.

What was the widest factory GM Wheels... 15" X 8" Rallye Rims off a Corvette?
Any Steel wheels come in 15" X 8" ? Or easier to go aftermarket for steel wheels in wider then 7" widths...
Don't plan on taking it down the drag strip, but you never know...

The widest factory steel wheels that were available on these trucks were the 16.5 x 9.75's. They were available on the Custom Campers. I have them on my '68 C-20 CST/Custom Camper.

Wow, wasn't expecting anything that wide.
How about fits a C10 like mine. C20 used 8-lug rims I believe.
15" X 8" would be a pretty decent size / fit. Stock steel wheels or else Rallye Wheels are my choices, assuming Steelies were made in that size...
Thanks for info the LocDoc!

Yup, my Dad told me a long long time ago... "If it ain't got an 8' bed, it ain't a real working truck". He was a carpenter, and then ran his own Concrete foundation business, He was a GMC man, and told me it was about time I bought a real truck! (Just sold off my 2012 F150 4x4 with 8' Bed!)

Not to shabby in that Camaro. Not factory, but you could get 8" and 10" 15s back in the era and Wheel Vintiques sells them now. I'm talking steelies. Jegs and Summit sells them

Next post will have Engine and Underside as requested.

Stopped and took some fresh photo's of the dirty truck, boy I've got a good cleaning, waxing, and detailing ahead me in the next week or two...

Future pictures will look much better, geez mold starting on the door panels - door seal replacement needed asap.
