06 6.0 Low oil pressure

I tried to search but the search box keeps disappearing on me.
Pardon me if this has been asked a hundred times already.
06 2500 HD 4X4 with 6.0 and 185K miles.
I have low oil pressure on startups.
Get a warning notice on the info screen.
It is very bad in these below 0 temps.
If I let it warm up for about 10 minutes it comes up to about 35 and stays there.
What is the problem and what is the fix?
Thanks for any info.
Jerry

Here is one thing I found
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZeDucaOe1k

Others web searches mention gauge sending unit or oil pump.

Re: 06 6.0 Low oil pressure

That video makes zero sense. My 2005 6.0 Denali uses nothing like that crazy tall filter or cap. I use K&N filters and I’ve just been used to 6.0 motors always seemingly having low pressure. Now granted I plan on a performance oil pump when I do a general freshening up when I pull it...but I wouldnt worry about 35-40 psi at idle.

Re: 06 6.0 Low oil pressure

O ring on the pickup tube is a common issue with the LS motors.
Not saying you have that problem but it's not uncommon.

If you're using the PF48E E-Core filters or filters that match that spec you can try changing to the UPF48R.

0W30 full synthetic motor oil rather than 5W30 full synthetic will improve cold flow.

Re: 06 6.0 Low oil pressure

On my '03 5.3, the oil pressure sensor went out. It would show zero at start up, and then peg to max under load. Changed it out and it shows fine again. Not saying this is your problem, but it might be worth checking.

My Bad. I didn't catch that was a 6.0 diesel in the video. Sorry for the misinformation/direction.

Re: 06 6.0 Low oil pressure

I agree about the oil pressure sensor behind the intake is a common problem .

Is there a noise coming from the engine at start up like lifter noise or a knock ? What motor oil weight are you running ? To heavy of motor oil in that environment can cause poor oil flow at cold start ups . Not good for the engine .

The oil pump o ring can be a problem also as mentioned above . This is a lot more difficult to resolve . I would start with oil sensor .

Re: 06 6.0 Low oil pressure

That happened to me last weekend . My 2005 gmc 1500hd 6.0 had low oil pressure down to 1/4 on the gauge . I changed the oil and put a new Acdelco filter on and it fixed my problem . I always run Acdelco filters it was a PF46 . I am going to cut the old filter apart . I replaced the sending unit in the block and the stepper motor in the dash . Everything is working alright now . I think I got lucky that it was only the filter that went bad not my engine.

Re: 06 6.0 Low oil pressure

A low oil pressure at startup then comes right up is tell tale sign of cracked oil pickup tube oring. I would pull it and you will see if it is hard and cracked.
