2007 2500HD Throttle Positioning Sensor

I have a 2007 2500Hd (new body style), and I have a engine light on the dash. I had Auto Zone check it and they said it is the TPS- Throttle Positioning Sensor. Does anyone know anything about this?? And does anyone know where this sensor is located? Thanks for any help you can add.

Check the wires and connector on the throttle body? The TPS is integral to the throttle body assembly, it is part of the throttle blade motor (thats not its technical name, just the only one I can come up with). Your engine doesn't use a accelorator cable, it is all electronic; Drive By Wire (DBW). When you mash the pedal, a little motor in the throttlebody opens the throttle blade and the TPS is part of it. I'm not sure if it can be replaced seperately, but my guess is no. The last time this code came up on one of these DBW engines, it was on my aunt's GMC Envoy and a rodent had chewed the wires at the throttlebody.

Whats the exact code (Pxxxx)? As Bwood said the TPS sensors are intergrated into the throttle body, There are 2. One rising, and one falling TPS sensor signals.

Re: 2007 2500HD Throttle Positioning Sensor

my 08 1500 has the tps code come up evey 45000-50000 miles. Last time the dealer cleaned the throttle body ,and sent it back with a $175 bill. Its considered maintenance, nit warranty. I later learned thats a common issue. Clean the throttle body around the platewith some carb cleaner, but dont drown it. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before messing with it. I was told it will thro off the calibration. I was told that the goo around the plate throws off the calibration and sets the code.

Re: 2007 2500HD Throttle Positioning Sensor

Just wanted to clarify a point just in case. I was told by several people "do not move throttle plate by hand if battery is hooked up. Even with the switch off, it can mess up the calibration of the throttleplate." It will require a scanner to relearn the calibration if it is messed up.

Re: 2007 2500HD Throttle Positioning Sensor

Ok, truck is fixed so I thought Id post in case someone else came across the same thing. I had my throttle relearned and everything went back to normal.
It was explained to me that as the throttle body gets dirty, the ecm makes adjustments. WHen the throttle body is cleaned, it is a sudden change and the ecm doesnt know what to do. He said it would readjust back to normal after 150-200 miles of driving since the GM electronics learn how to adjust settings based off of your driving habits. In short, if you clean your throttle body on a newer DBW GM, have access to a Tech 2 scanner that can aid in relearning the TPS or be prepared to make a 150 mile road trip.

i had done this once before and didnt have this issue. i guess its a 50/50 chance
