Break spring

As i was driving to pick up my son from school i steped on the break pedal to stop and the spring that pulls it back broke. Does anyone know where to get one and how to put it on i tryed for almost 2 hours and couldnt do it.

Is it the spring underneath the truck on the linkage? Some have a overcenter spring under the dash on the pedal.

That spring is a PITA, I fought mine for a while, but finally won the battle. I used a small pair of needle nose vise grips. I also dropped the column down from the dask in order to get some more room to work. Sorry I dont have any more help that that. I would like to know an easier way if I ever have to do that again
