Texas Title Related: Can I get title history somehow? 12 digit vin

So the truck I bought has an original 1966 Texas Title. The paper is very close to disintegrating and some parts are frayed. Heck, the title wasn't even blue back then.

However, the last time the truck passed inspection and was registered was in 1988. So surely the titled owners must have changed since then? The guy I bought the truck from is not on the title. The guy he bought it from is not on the title either. But there isn't a place where you can even put a new title owner like you can on the new titles.

Since I am getting close to the 30 days of ownership I am thinking of just applying for a bonded title. But if I can find the last registered owner and have him sign the title transfer I would save myself some headaches. But how do I find the last titled owner? None of the VIN check websites accept my vin.

To answer your question, no, they won’t give you anything. Privacy concerns I was told.

I would take it with you to DVM, have the bonded title stuff done prior to that.

When it was registered doesn’t matter, they can see that.

Also bring a bill of sale with you also from the seller, this takes some of the responsibility off of you.

Do you have the last registered owners name?

@Clyde
Looks like I am stuck with getting it bonded then.

@Rod
I have the name and address of whoever the title was issued to in 1966. The truck had been sitting outside since 1988 until very recently. Who knows if that person is still alive and kicking, or if someone else applied for a bonded title in the meantime. Guess I'll start the bonded title process.

I paid $50 to a Private Investigator that had access to who the current owner was of my Lost 65. That's how I found it.

In Texas, the bonded title is easy peasy. Costs a little more but it pays for itself imo

The last registered owner can be gotten via a form filled out at the DMV. Might want to go to the website and read.

Just a quick update if anyone is interested. When I went to the DMV to get a bonded title I was told the truck had not been titled in the last 15 years or so, so it was no longer in their system. And that means I need to have it inspected by auto theft task force that deals with my county before I can even get the bonded title procedure started.

Wow! I did not know that was the “policy”!

I had them inspect a vintage travel trailer I bought for a bonded title about 4 years ago. Officer was very nice, informative and was completed pretty quick.
They are looking for altered VIN’s and stuff.

Since counties are responsible for this, I found some counties different than others. Or maybe just the clerks I'm not sure. I know when I was in Bosque County (very rural) they were super lenient. Here in McClennon County (Waco) not so much.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a quick procedure that happens at the DMV parking lot on the same day every week depending on the county. Costs $40 as money order or cashier's check. Form 68A needs to be filled out by the task force.

My only issue is they don't make house calls and I have no way of getting to the truck to the DMV in the condition it is currently.

They made a house call on mine, I told them it isn’t moveable.
