Re: Anybody like metal?

Ok, You really want my opinion? Metal is only slightly more tolerable than Rap. They both make me want to put a .45 ACP slug in the radio.
But I'm an old fart, so...

Re: Anybody like metal?

Long time member of the Slaytanic Wehrmacht here (old term for a "Slayer" fan).

I am not into the metal scene anymore and I haven't been to a concert since 2001 but it was a great time. Ozz Fest 1999 was an experience.

I used to hit the mosh pits, stage dive, and I have crowd surfed. It was a lot of fun but not great for my ears. I haven't bought a metal album in years but I still have a few in my car that I listen to. In Sociology class I wrote my term paper on metal concerts and the crowd interaction.

I wanted to go see "Iron Maiden" last Friday but I was just too busy.

I really wish I had seen "Gwar" when I was younger. FEED THE WORLD MAGGOT!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LT5EXPixLgo

The metal of the 1980's was largely focused on the possibility of World War III and some bands really got into that "Megadeth." Into the 1990's it changed a bit and got even cooler. It was a blast to go to such concerts. That was back when MTV was actually concerned with music.

Re: Anybody like metal?

Honestly I just like a few Pantera songs, but Leo is just plain entertaining.

They talk about him all the time on the local rock radio station up here in the western Washington area. He is pretty talented.

Re: Anybody like metal?

I'm a metal head. I go way back. Had a cousin much older than me to turn me onto metal. I've been hooked ever since. I even had long hair, but that has come to pass. My stepson finds it funny how I like metal. Just been my thang.

Re: Anybody like metal?

I'm in... but not for the old hair metal (okay, I like Rush, but they're not really metal). I dig modern metalcore and hardcore, and prog metal.

On the simple but fun side: Hatebreed, Zao, Bury Your Dead;

On the complex but "requires listening attention" side: Between The Buried And Me, Wretched, Within The Ruins, Pomegranate Tiger, Scale The Summit...

I play guitar too, and any given session will generally include metalcore riffs, blues solos, clean melodies, scales practice and some straight rock and roll!

Re: Anybody like metal?

I love old cast iron. There was so much pride put into that old embossed work. My girlfriend collects copper stuff and now I'm looking more at old stuff made of copper. I am totally fascinated by all you can do with steel fabrication from machining, to forging, to welding, shaping... So yep, I guess you could say I'm into a lot of metal.

Re: Anybody like metal?

Long time metal head here.

I dig any rock, metal, punk, thrash, death and yes even glam metal.

I also get into blues (thanks to this site) classic, oldies, bluegrass and old country.

Anything is better than most of the crap that comes out today.

Few my favs, madien,slayer,suicidal, anthrax,cannibal corpes,megadeth,king diamond.

I saw Greenday way back when they were just a garage punk band their music was much differnt then.

Last show I was at was d.r.i at a nearby club.....love them to I got to hang with them afterwards at a local bar.............. good times.

Re: Anybody like metal?

I love metal. Going to see Metallica in Orlando on June 5th and in Miami on June 7th. It will be my 5th and 6th time seeing them. My brother-in-law is in a metal band called Arakara. You can look them up on youtube or spotify if you are interested.

I used to be an aluminum siding contractor, but that's not heavy metal.

I like a little of the music but not most of it. The heaviest music I listened to was before the category existed and where metal came from. By the time it became a commercial success I was traveling other paths. I keep an open mind to music, it's art. But, it's hard since what we like to listen to comes out of preference and what we identify with.
