That will be my next (make over) project.
Mine is a 2 door hardtop Impala.

I also like the Orange on the trans and transfer.
What transfer case is that?

.
The last day I drove my SS was October 31, 1984. I put it away for winter...took it out in the spring, and a fellow that was going to buy a truck from my brother, made me an offer for the car...I sold it. So in total, I drove it for a month after working on it for 3 summers.

Regarding the transfer case, it’s a 1968 and I believe it’s the 205.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Original front shackle mount doesn’t look good...remember, the Blue Ox parts truck was hit in front.

Got a lot done...Vikings weren’t very distracting today. Added the gusset and welded it up.

A little paint and done...when I bolt them up to the frame I’ll drill out the other holes. Done for tonight.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

A pretty busy week...I had a tough time finding the time to finish up the front leaf spring mounts, but here they are.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Brackets look good! Did you drill up through the brackets and frame for bolts on the tab that goes under the frame?

Yes, but I didn’t get a picture of those.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

I am trying to plan the next step.

...I have to remove the lower bracket of the transmission crossmember (red arrow)—this will make room for the rear shackle mount. I’ll think about a different type of lower support to replace the original, because I think the trans crossmember will remain in the same place when I drop a Small Block V8 in to replace the Inline 6, while using a similar 4 speed trans.

...I will be cutting out a section of the frame to remove the curved out emergency brake frame attachment (red square) which is in the way of the mount. The replacement steel will come from the 3/4 ton “Blue Ox” frame, which will have the factory hole (and flat steel) that the grade 8 bolt will pass through, holding the shackle. I’ll take better pictures the next chance I get.

...I think this will do it.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Went out to look at the carcass of the Blue Ox...yup, upon closer inspection, the drivers side frame horn is pushed over. I am trying to justify my next move.

Thanks...I sometimes can be pretty patient. I have had projects take double digit years to complete...heh heh.

I hope to use the cardboard template to its fullest potential. The cab mount edge that is labeled, is key for me. Also, I am thinking about how small a rectangle I can cut out, and cover the necessary area...all without compromising Dolly’s frame. At least there’s not a heavy motor hanging in front of the work area...I think I’ll be OK.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Let me know what you think...

Trying to keep the cutting to a minimum, I came up with this for the cut pattern. I like that I keep Dolly’s top and bottom frame rails, and that I use the the donors original mounting points, and that there are angles. Hopefully the size of this will cover the two dimpled spots on Dolly’s frame.

All of this being in my head, I guess I’ll find out when I get a chance to get out to the garage. I see another cardboard template in my future.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

I cut out the area where the “bumps” were, so I could work on a relatively flat surface.

Using the template, I mark the top line and then match up the same line on the steel.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Looking good.

That is a Great plan you have in place.
I am taking notes
Just my input.
Tack and fit inside of the frame rail 1st.
Cause the outside will be easier to grind shape and re-weld.
