Re: turbo 400/208

I believe the output shaft is different.
I had a t-400 put in mine years ago.
Seems part of the swap was the trans shaft and a special mount support between the trans and transfer case.

Yes. There is a specific 400/208 adapter. The 700/208 and 465/208 are different.

Re: turbo 400/208

A 2 wheel drive trains and 4x4 trans are way way different. As far as bolting a t case on a 4x4 trans its a little different. The end of the trans has a output shaft that is splined.Well they have 2 or 3 different spline number shafts. The other thing is the bolt pattern and shape of it.And last is the adapter that goes between the t case and trans. And honestly with a turbo 400 i would run a np205 its a lot stronger then a np208 and you can find a turbo 400/np205 in any auto 1 ton 4x4 73-87 pretty much.

Re: turbo 400/208

A 2 wheel trans can be made in to a 4x4 one but you almost have to fully gut it to do the shaft swap on it.But being you have the trans and t case out of a truck,I would take that trans have it rebuilt. Most trans shop don't charge a lot if you drop off a trans and pick it back up.And the turbo 400 is a old trans won't be hard for them to rebuild it.
