Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Thanks so much for the quick response.

Whew! A cancer scare at only 38?! Man, we don't know each other but I'm pulling for you. Heck yes to stepping up and achieving things you always wanted to do....like building your vintage truck. Life is short, ya gotta live it to the fullest. Again, thanks for the info. I'll be looking for a build thread. It's gonna be fantastic from the look of it. Best, Dan.

No build thread as of yet, but will probably get something going. Basically I have owned it for 17 years with most of that being in primer. I made the decision to finish it 4 years ago after being diagnosed with cancer at 38. All is good now but definately life altering. The truck has spend the last couple of years in bodyshop prison but was paroled recently. But was worth the wait. I hope to have it done this summer. Send me a PM if you have anymore questions.

I was diagnosed with Brain cancer at 45 I wish you all the luck with recovery. I think we are doing the right thing by not letting it stop us from doing what we love!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Glad to hear you guys success stories. I hope all of your recoveries are as successful as mine has been. Been there, done that too. Had prostate cancer ten years ago at 60. Caught it early due to regular checkups. NO problems.

Guys, have regular checkups, could save your life.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I actually got a chance to start some rust removal and patch welding, my first of many patches to come.. the lower fender skirt mount was rotted out of my drivers side front , it gave me a chance to try out my new welder and other toys ! I started in this area to get used to welding 18ga , and it's hidden..ha ha..i have more to do on this panel.but this is all i could get done before work.. I am going to start a build thread soon..

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

While I had the welder out building legs for the greenhouse welded up some holes in the bed strips and gave my grandson his first shot at welding. He did pretty good so let him weld some of the brackets for the greenhouse.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

My truck is 600 miles away and on another island. Yesterday I dropped off a set of chromies and whitewalls, a freshly rebuild 700R4 and some sound deadening to a mate who is taking a container up close to where the truck is.

Hopefully by the weekend, the truck will be looking great and I will then post up some pictures. We are heading up that way later this week and will see it for the first time on sunday morning. We bought it without actually seeing it

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Put her back on stands, removed the rear tires - getting ready for another brake bleeding session >.<

Also spent a lotta time moving rubber around a front fender trying to determine exactly how the 'anti-rattle' kit is supposed to go in.

Received a box from LMC truck - polished sill plates, new door handles, and a 'dual-cone' in dash replacement speaker.

I now have every peice required to fully reassemble my truck minus the radiator (ordered) and the new headlights - going with the really annoying blue headlights

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I picked up my truck from the body shop, they FINALLY!! Finished it after 18 months. I am just pushing it outside into the sun everyday until I can fit the cab onto the frame.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

New gas tank was supposed to include the sending unit gasket, a 2 buck part, not there, vendor says will reimburse me. Small town, parts shop sells me make your own. Spend an hour travel, cutting, fitting, all done. Go to get box from Autometer sending unit that I have looked in at least a dozen times and the gasket falls out, its been in there nearly 20 years. Now I have a spare.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Unfortunately I can only work on this during the weekends. Commuting 5 hours each way until it is drive-able.

Took out the seat to clean underneath it. It had to have at least 6 inches of acorns, leaves and oh...a possum and 2 birds. Once I cleaned that out, I am was happy to see pretty solid floors and corner cabs. There is a small patch I will do (not now) in the passenger toe board, but other than that she looks solid.
