Very common item, any auto parts store should have them. Got mine at my local NAPA store.

Going to revive this old thread... I'm looking for some new ideas to mount my overflow. Several great options on here. Are you guys just using self-tapping screws to mount these?

As previously asked, I'm having an issue finding the right cap to make it work. I've tried 2 caps, and neither one of them work. I even went to the local parts store and they couldn't tell me the difference in radiator caps - mainly cause he couldn't look it up on his computer.

Anyone have a part number for the cap I need?

Virtually every car since the seventies has had a over flow tank and an appropriate radiator cap. The only real difference in the caps would be the pressure rating of the cap until you get into the late model small caps.
Can you post pictures of your system and describe in more detail what problem you are experiencing.

I'll try and get some pictures this evening, but my truck did not have an overflow tank. I just added a generic one from Advanced Auto a couple of months ago, as a temporary test on my coolant system. When I bought the truck, it was losing a lot of coolant with no visible leaks. So, I added a reservoir just to see if I could catch any in there. It's gradually collected more and more as the outdoor temps have gone up. Now, I'm catching quite a bit in the reservoir, but it won't pull it back in to the radiator.

I'm going to use a different container, and find a better location that is more permanent once I can figure out what's going on.

Bottle is from an 00's Acura MDX. I had to bend, cut, and weld the bracket a bit to get it to fit. I drilled holes in the fender, and welded the nuts to the bracket, so I can easily bolt it in from underneath.

Here are a few pictures of what I'm currently using for my setup. Like I said, this is temporary until I can get any issues figured out. I think my permanent mounting will be on the driver's side of the radiator.

But, so far, I can't get the radiator to pull any coolant back from the overflow container.

When the coolant is hot, it expands and pushes past the cap into the overflow reservoir.
When it is cool, it contracts, creating a vacuum, which pulls coolant in from the reservoir.

If there is a leak, when the coolant is cooling down, it could pull air form the leak rather than the overflow.

Leaks can be hard to find, as they can be very small, but over time lead to a lot of coolant loss. You can get dye for the coolant to help find leaks.

Couple thoughts. Is the top hose hard when the engine is running and hot? After turning off the engine, how long does it take to loose pressure?

I'm not sure how long it takes for it to lose pressure. It seems like it has lost the pressure the next day. But, I've only squeezed the top radiator hose once or twice, after a cool down. I've never religiously gone out to check it at different intervals to see what's going on. Haven't had the chance/time to do it.

I just switched the cap and only drove it a short distance with that cap on it. So, I don't have a good trial run with this cap, yet.

I'm going to dump the reservoir again to refill the radiator. More than likely going to go to a cruise on Saturday night that is about an hour away. That will give me a good chance to get everything hot and then let it cool, then get hot again on the way home.

Another option I have been considering is the 4th gen Camaro coolant recovery tank. In them it is integrated with the battery hold down tray but I think there is enough room to tuck it in below our battery tray and still reach the filler neck. They hang kind of low but there may be enough space to work with. Have to grab a used one to test fit and see.

The pictures are of people retrofitting them into 3rd gen Camaros.

I'm happy with my Astro van overflow tank - installed only a week or so ago. I need to replace the Champion radiator cap with one that will siphon. The tank is deceiving and is larger than it looks. I like that it uses space in the front corner that would otherwise go unused. The single hex screw bolted to the corner brace keeps it secure.

For anyone interested, it's Chevrolet Astro GMC Safari 85-94 Partslink GM3014101, OE P/N 15594487.

Got my radiator to finally work and siphon the fluid back from the overflow bottle. Went ahead and bought another new cap and all is good. Ended up mounting my bottle on the driver side of the radiator mount. Don't have any pictures, but there are a few on here.
