Electrical issues 92 'Burb
Bought a 1992 Suburban the owner dragged it out of the woods and I plunked down $600. I have two electrical issues at present. The "Ctsy" 20 amp fuse is evaporating as soon as I plug it in. I removed several orange wires from the curcuit board by the drivers left toe and it stopped blowing the fuse. When I put them back in, the small Orange wire going to a slot that says Green if I'm not mistaken, blows the fuse instantly. I've cut the wire to the glove box switch, removed the cigarette lighter and visually inspected but have not found a short yet. I removed the after market radio and will inspect those butchered wires next. Anyhow, if someone knows where the master splice is that sends this circuit all over the 'Burb, I'd like to know so I can isolate the problem.
Second issue: Power seat no workee. Drivers seat only. Removed seat from base, took base to shop, pressure washed, oiled and greased all gears, seat works like a champ. Back at 'Burb, seat no workee no power to seat, no fuses except "Ctsy" blown. With good fuse in Ctsy and SMALL orange wire disconnected, still no power to seat. Do these things have a habit of breaking the seat power wire under the carpet? |

Re: Electrical issues 92 'Burb
Well, if anybody is interested, I found the problems after an afternoon of swearing, sweating and contortions well past my 74 year old body's capabilities. The driver's side sun visor had the shorted wire in it. The wires going to the power seat had chafed, shorted and finally crystallized the positive wire to the point that it fractured under the carpet on the drivers side. I put a splice in it temporarily, but will go back today and change the positive and negative wires and add a sleeve under the carpet. This circuit is one of the most difficult (to me) because it goes to so many different places, the lights inside, every place there's a courtesy light and many more, in a large parallel circuit, any of which can short out.
