Post turbo 350 tranny rebuild got 3 quotes need your input ?

Some of you replyed to my othe post
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ub...ML/020124.html

and know what I did to my tranny so I won't repeat my dumbass mistake
I got 3 quote for my tranny to get rebuilt

The #1 guy in town was
450 bucks with torque convertor and I had to take it to him I didn't ask how much it was for the labor to take it out for me because the guy was rude and hung up on my before I could ask.If he would do it for free I probably wouldn't take it to him I can't stand rude people if your going to run a business that make a living off people you better be polite and if your in a bad mood have someone else do the talking.

other 2 places were pretty close on price and seemed cheap to me and they do all the work.

one was 525 installed and a extra 125 for a shift kit

the other was 600 installed I'm going to call them back about a shift kit

Here are some questions I have

I have a shift kit already in the tranny can it be reused?

And are there any other ?'s I should ask the tranny shops before I take My ride to them?

Thanks

I just bought a complete rebuild kit for my tranny. I pulled the tranny and t-case last weekend and I'm gonna start tearing down the tanny this weekend. The kits run between $100-150. It is suppost to take some serious time, especially if you have never done a rebuild before (which I haven't). If you have more time than $, you might consider rebuilding it yourself. At least you'll know what to do if it happens again.

I had the tranny in my '72 replaced (before I had a garage or tools) and it cost me $1200. I was probably ripped off but I didn't have a lot of choices at the time. $500-600 sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I had mine rebuilt last year. They re-used my shift kit, and upgraded the sprag gear to that of a 700 r-4, they suggested this to help with durability, it was only additional $50 so I had it done. Total bill $650, they did it all and even towed it from my house. I'm with you on the time. Plus I don't know anything about trannies, so I leave it to the professionals.

I had one rebuilt a couple of years ago. This guy rebuilt it and upgraded the parts that were able to be upgraded. It was 425 for the tranny only. Installation and removel was separate.

My th350 was done last spring for $320, including a rebuilt converter and a shift kit. 1 yr 12,000 mile warrantee, He would have done the R+R for $100 more on a 2 wheel drive.

Case bt-
Hard to tell with Trans shops. i agree with the rude comment, but check around for every option. I recently had a 400 Turbo re-worked for me, I did the removal and install myself. He installed a high end shift kit, ordered me a new 2800 stall. I gave him $300.00, and the trans is tight as can be. The removal is Very easy, if you have a floor jack and some determination it only takes about 1/2 to drop one. Before you spend $600.00, you may want to check out the rebuilt 350s offered by Autozone and Advanced. For around the same $$ you can have a warranty and an almost new unit. Good luck!!!

Hey Tynee
The problem with my company is they get more projects and expect the same amount of people to do more work I really shouldn't complain at least I still have a job in these uncertain economic times.
I work 6 days a week sometimes sundays 12-14 hour days when I'm off I like to spend time with my kids.
