Re: White dash pad?

White dash pad will be a killer. Just put some white paper on your daily driver and you will see what I mean. the darker the color, the less glare you will have to deal with. Ever see a baseball player put white stuff on his cheek bones? hehehehe

Have you ever considered having one made in white. If so, I can customize this for you. We can talk a deal later if interested.

Re: White dash pad?

I do upholstery as a side job hobby. For the dash pad color, I can change or repair an old one. I can do some other custom interior depending on what you want done.

Re: White dash pad?

can a white dash pad even be purchased? I know that LMC for example, sells a black dash pad when you order the white interior kit. Ive never seen a white pad in any of my catalogs.

I've never seen white either. As far as I know, white interiors usually had Sandalwood or Black dash pads.

Re: White dash pad?

You can't put white on a dashboard the glare would be so bad from the sun that you wouldn't be able to see thru the windshield , like Huck said ^ try placing 4-5 sheets of white paper across any dash with the sun shining the glare from the reflection on the glass is bad ,real bad . if your dead set on having white make sure you get a dark dash cover for during the day or you'll wish you never did it .

Re: White dash pad?

There's a reason they didn't do this even in the 60s. It's not safe. Don't do it. You'll wish you didn't have to live with it on sunny days.

If it's purely a style thing, and you don't use the truck, I suppose I can see it, but like others have said, if you've ever left a piece of white paper on your dash it becomes quickly evident why you wouldn't want the whole thing white from a practical standpoint.

You could paint/dye one to your liking, it would just take a couple of extra coats for coverage I think.

Re: White dash pad?

G.M. never used white on these trucks, safety reasons. Parchment interiors always had a black dash pad. Same as passenger cars. That's one reason the manufacturers from this era stopped using all that chrome, too much reflection. Stick with black or some other dark color for safety and common sense reasons.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Go to a parts store and get some of that peel able vinyl coating and "paint" yours to see if you like it. Just a suggestion

My wife wanted a parchment one in her Blazer, I mentioned it might not be a good thing due to reflection, even though I thought it was not a good idea I went ahead and installed it, never was an issue.

Re: White dash pad?

I don't know why a white dash pad would be any more of an issue than a white hood. Anytime the glare is that bad it's time for sunglasses.

Re: White dash pad?

It reflects the sun off the INSIDE of the glass , Look at the picture above of livrat's windshield and you can see the reflection of the dash on the glass .In full summer sun it's really bad with a white dash (I don't know anything about his truck) . and even if you wear sunglasses you'll still see the "shadow" of glare . Just like when you paint a high gloss finish on the metal dash top .That's why a lot of guys use a flat or matte clear on that area of the dash.
