I can't see!!

Hey Guys,

My truck is two weeks out of the paint shop. I removed the original, (I think), three point towing mirrors and planned on replacing them with OER side view mirrors from Brothers Trucks dot com. They are supposedly sure fits for '71-'72 C10's. The one on the passenger side does not allow enough deflection to see anything within 10'-12' out from the side of the truck. Therefore completely unusable. This is my second try. I bought a set off eBay. Same manufacturer, (United Pacific), same exact problem. Returned them figuring Brothers would have the correct mirrors. WRONG. Nothing in the listing from Brothers about the manufacturer. Just to be original fitment. Received the exact United Pacific mirrors with the exact visibility problems. What mirrors are you guys using? Anybody got a solution for these? I found the exact mirrors on Summit, there are multiple complaints about not being able to deflect the passenger side enough to be usable.

Re: I can't see!!

I have the same problem on my '72 C10. I'm curious to know if there is a stock (or maybe stock looking) passenger side mirror that I can see out of?

This style ?
A convex right hand Sport Mirror will give you slightly better vision but not much.
They look great but they aren't the most functional mirrors.
Good Luck.

Re: I can't see!!

See if you can sit in a truck, or even drive it, before you get rid of your towing mirrors.
A few years ago I did this with mine, but between the poor quality of the Repop Sport mirrors (I had three of the mirror heads separate from the bases) and the VERY restricted vision field allowed, I took them off and went back to the “Elephant Ear” mirrors.
I agree that the Sport mirrors look good, but for me, they’re not functional

Re: I can't see!!

A buddy and I had this discussion yesterday. He can't see out of his repo mirrors either.

If you will use NOS you will be able to see.

I would think a dremel would work better, maybe not.

Re: I can't see!!

Using a convex passenger side mirror, I mounted it a little further back from the vent window post and the original location.
My mirror fortunately adjusts properly.
Like I said earlier, the small Sport Mirrors look great but are not the best viewing side mirrors.

Re: I can't see!!

Well, for everyone who has had the same mirror dilemma, I have fixed mine and am using the miscreant/wayward mirrors that I got from Brothers. It took about 30 minutes, a little muscle, grinding and dry fitting. But they are done and working! No shims, nada.

I will post pix and details how this was accomplished later today. Right now my wife is making me go through my closet! I just wanna work on my truck!!
