Rivet looking bolts?

I did a search and came up with some random stuff. Anyone know a good source for bolts that look like rivets for doing things like bolting the running board brackets onto the frame?

I know I am being a bit anal but that's me. LOL

It may be hard to find something that looks like a rivet but here's a good source for specialty bolts

Funny how if you call something by the correct name it makes a difference. LOL I found a bunch that way, thanks.

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

a common frame attachment fastener that looks like threaded rivets are called Huck bolts..

https://www.afshuck.net/us/en/Produc...HuckBolts.html

Quote:
Unlike any other fastener in the world, HuckBolts® are precision engineered two-piece fasteners that, once installed, never come loose. No matter how vibration-intensive the environment, HuckBolts stay put. HuckBolts provide direct metal-to-metal contact when installed, which eliminates the transverse vibration often found in conventional nuts and bolts. Engineered for a wide range of applications, HuckBolts deliver superior joining strength, shear, and tensile strength for an unmatched fastening solution.
good luck!

That's not what I am after but HOLY CRAP those are some awesome bolts! What engineering, I didn't see a price but they have to be quite a bit.

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

Best part of dealing with McMasterCarr is that they don't have minimum orders or require you to buy a box of bolts to get the count you really need. When I did Maintenance purchasing for one of the Seneca foods plants I had orders in with them all the time.

When I want to give the illusion of rivets I just use button-head Allen bolts. They're commonly available and the round head has the appearance of a rivet.

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

bolt depot use to sell truss bolts, similar to button head, but a bigger head. i don't see them in the catalog anymore. i used 3/8'' ss truss bolts on the fender to bed connections and 1/4'' ss truss bolts on the steps. they have a slot or phillips head but look good. no closeup pics of bolt heads

nothing to do with your original question... but when looking at boltdepot site i found flange bolts. didn't know they were called that but it's the bolt that holds 90% of our trucks together. i sandblasted and painted all my old bolts, had i know about flange bolts i would have ordered a box of 100 5/16x1 flange bolts. they have the serrated head that all of the bolts have

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

I'm also a fan of Bolt Depot, they are reasonably prices and the website is very user friendly. A socket head bolt with a button head would closely resemble a rivet.

Grade 8 flange bolts with self locking flange nuts is the perfect for replacing rivets on components attached to the frame. Grade 5 would be OK for miscellaneous brackets, etc... so you have a wide variety of options.

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

McMaster Carr has box quantities, broken boxes cost a little extra.. if you're local, $20 min order order I recall.. in Santa Fe Springs store, 'bout 20 miles from me, they have a phone on the wall for walk-is orders.. goes to order desk lol.. great place with awesome selection.. been using them 30 years every place I've worked including .mil and my personal use..

Hillco is an awesome automotive specialty hardware store, also local, 'bout 3 miles from me..

http://www.hillcofasteners.com

Mcfadden Dale in Anaheim and Santa Ana always had great selection and early house for trades guys..

https://mcfadden-dale.doitbest.com

good luck!

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

Google "flat head screw rivets", go to the pictures, then dig around for something that fits your application. Good luck!

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

There are a bunch of awesome fasteners but those are just "screws" and not big stuff to hold a bracket or crossmember on a frame.

What about using a standard carriage bolt and just a couple tack welds to keep it from turning?

I'll be installing them after the frame and parts are powder coated.

It's all good, looks like I have found what I need, if not I will use regular bolts.

OK. The Corvette purists rivet their ball joints back into place. Google "ball joint rivets" and you'll get some bigger stuff - even fake big rivet stuff (with threads). See the pictures too...

Re: Rivet looking bolts?

You can buy round head steel rivets to drive for frames but the powder coated frame and brackets pretty well puts the screws to that as most likely the powder coating will get chipped plus you have to figure out how to touch up the heads with pant after you drive the rivets.

Of course, the Corvette parts vendors think this stuff is jewelry (ask me how I know), so be prepared to pay for it by the carat.
