Looking at Underbed Tanks / What Brand and Why

Looking to do an LS Swap soon on my 72 and am going to start gathering parts .Going to get the fuel system parts on hand first . What tank , Aluminum or Stainless and why and which brands and why ?

I purchased a Boyd’s under bed EFI tank. I just installed it this weekend. Fits really nice!! Good quality welds, strong, sturdy, and great company to deal with.

That is the one we installed in my Buddies truck and I like it but want more info on other tanks out there . I saw a Stainless Tank at a shop today that looked nice for $600 all including in tank pump and sending unit .

Tanks Inc, i went with the 69 camaro EFI tank. there have been others who have gone this route with good success, i think HotRod did an article on it sa well. Mine isnt installed yet, but after reading about those who have done it, the only difficult part is adding a piece of metal across the frame for the tank to mount to.

Tanks Inc has a universal tank that is very close dimensions to the Boyd. Can be spec'd with a pump, sender, etc.

I just went with a stock tank for a 89-91 suburban/Blazer. It was already set up for in tank EFI pump. Just use a high pressure fuel pump like Walbro 255, which will fit the stock sending unit .

Only took a little fabrication to get tank straps to mount it in place of the spare tire. I had to remove one cross brace from the frame.

I just checked with Tank Inc. The universal UT-N2T 16 gal. tank is almost a perfect fit for my 65 c10. Add a U-line gas line kit, Wlabro fuel pump, and for $520 a complete fuel system. I might send my OEM tank back and do this.

I went with the Boyds EFI as well. It was easy to install and fit great. Worth the money for simplicity and quality.

That's the same one I'm looking at. It's coated steel instead of stainless so maybe a potential longevity issue? Probably fine. Extra $175 for stainless.

I have the Boyds efi tank in my 66. I am using it with a carb and a return style regulator from Aeromotive. This is the second Boyd tank I have had and hard to beat the fit and finish.

The only problem with a boyds tank is it is far too purty to hide under the bed of a rusty old truck.

I too went with a Boyd EFI tank, with the 340 pump.
Besides it being a nice tank, it's internally baffled as well, so that was plus for me.

Also, if I bought it over, I would do powder coat or clear coat it.

I am going to go with the Boyd's top fill on my steel bed 71.I still am not sure what kind of f door I am going to put in the floor to get to the filler cap.They say it will be below the bed floor.If you want to use a flush mount filler you have to pay them a little extra to weld a big barb fitting on the tank filler neck.I want to buy mine from a vendor and that is not a option to have barb welded on.

If you want their flush mount fill door you pay extra for it but they don't do anything different to the tank. It connects to the tank with a section of fill hose. There are other fill doors available elsewhere as well. My buddy got a super cool looking one for his. Can't remember where he got it but I bet a google search will turn some up.

I too have the Boyds tank it is one of the original with the in-tank pump. I say original versions as I think he has done some more internal baffling. The fit and install is great and it looks super under there. I had an Blazer Poly tank and an external pump that all worked but I knew this would be better. It does look great and doesn't hang down.
Now for the bad on mine anyway. I dont have a ton of power by comparison of some but I am turbocharged so it is pretty decent when I would get on it hard anything under half a tank would run away from the pump and I would loose fuel. I chased this around for a while with some foam but ultimately changed pumps and added a fuel mat. They are not cheap but neither is blowing up my motor. This fixed my fueling problem. Like I said I believe the internals have been upgraded so you should be good. I could have understood under a quarter but half was a little extreme. I like to drive my truck and take trips and this was not good as I was always feeling the need to keep the truck "full".
It is a great tank but even better now.

I've been running Rick's Tank in my truck for the last 5 years. Using their Vaporworx line that utilizes a Gen V camaro pump. No need for a return line. I've been able to run the tank to almost empty (about an 1" of fuel at the bottom of the tank) and still drive the truck hard around corners without fuel starvation issues.

I have Ricks tank in my 67 Camaro. It's efi and no issue with fuel delivery.
I have a Boyds in my 71 C10 (efi) and under a 1/4 I get fuel starvation issues with any aggressive acceleration even with the Holley's hydramat.

I ordered and received my Boyd's tank last week , Thanks to all who posted on this thread . Now to gather more parts for the Donor swap . Just got the wiring harness yesterday , getting all the parts together fairly quickly .
