1988 Suburban barn find in TX

I am new to the board but love square bodies and I am restoring a crew cab 4x4 and this suburban at the same time(ouch!$$). I found this burb on an auction being donated to the Purple Heart Foundation and then sold at auction. It is a one owner with 34K original miles, and has been sitting since around 2004. The interior was extremely clean when I bought it but it must have been dry rotted because the front seats split soon after. I did replace brakes, injectors, tune up, fuel sending unit and pump and cleaned lines. It runs very well!

I just had it soda blasted and we are in process of repainting it white in next couple of weeks. I'll start posting pics of the process.

Thanks for sharing. That Suburban is going to turn out really nice. I went through almost the same procedure repainting mine 6 years ago. I used SPI clear which has held up very well parked continuously outside in the very high Texas heat.

Very nice find!

Edahall - Thanks for the tip on the clearcoat. My '85 looked great when I picked it up, but it had been garaged since new. One year of sitting outside and the clear began to peel.

Awesome. I have been reading on what paint prep and zinc coating to apply to the body. I guess Ill use epoxy primer then base/clear.

That's pretty much what I did. Put your money into a high quality clear coat that is high in UV inhibitors. I used low budget Kirker epoxy primer and Kirker base then spent my money on SPI clear. This recipe has lasted well and did not break the bank.

How much did the soda blasting run you?

Thanks! I'm thinking of picking up a burb as a project and they all seem to have the clear coat peeling off.
