Tailgate blanket?
What are those things for anyway? I see them on a lot of trucks these days. They hang over the outside of the tailgate and I assume they cover the entire inside too. Usually have some sort of manufacture logo on em.

Re: Tailgate blanket?
Awww... an afghan for your precious tailgate. Do they make fuzzy slippers for the hinges and mittens for the supports? I think I saw a logo yesterday. It said "Taiwgate Bwanky"
I guess my standard response would be "It's just something new to buy". I have moving quilts for gp.

Re: Tailgate blanket?
Blazer 2007 is correct, and from what I hear, they work really well. Not that I would know-last time I rode a bike was the day I got my driver's licence

Re: Tailgate blanket?
If the bikes ride well like that and it's just a matter of protecting the tailgate, then I guess. What I always had (and need one for the '72) was a quick mount crossbar for up front with fork mounts like these:
https://www.googleadservices.com/pag...9aACCEw&adurl= I use a 2" receiver rack for my Suburban.

Re: Tailgate blanket?
It's a helluva lot quicker with the tailgate blanket but I always use a hitch rack, that way I still get to use my bed.

Re: Tailgate blanket?
Don't the bikes fall over into each other? What keeps them in place and upright?

Re: Tailgate blanket?
The blanket has padding to keep them separate but when I did this I ran a strap over all the bikes.

Re: Tailgate blanket?
It's a truck, not a Maserati. Treat it and use it as such.
When I was a kid the only time you saw a bike in back of a truck was when dad brought it home from the store or the kid was punished and grounded from riding

Re: Tailgate blanket?
That is why I like long bed trucks, they fit inside and you can shut the gate not having to buy all the extra crap

Re: Tailgate blanket?
Exactly Richard, these are for the folks who purchase pickups with a 5.5' bed. A $5 moving blanket would work just as well

Re: Tailgate blanket?
The thing with laying them, especially more than one, in the bed is they rub, chip, and scrape the paint all up... or even mechanical damage. I used to think a bike rack on a pickup was silly, same as you probably think. Trucks are for hauling. But these aren't $100 Walmart bikes. I've had them where I said only sissies worry about their paint, too. They ended up looking like crap and I wanted to paint them because it's about taking care of your simple machine with cycling. I used to lead these bike trips for the outdoor branch (Pioneers) of our local 4H. I'd use my '70 C/30 with 11' utility body and piled all the bikes in to go ride the C&O Canal and other trails. I never heard complaints from parents, but I noticed my bikes got all boogered up. I'll stick with a simple rack in the receiver.

Re: Tailgate blanket?
Yep. I use something simpler, what I showed in post #9. Just need one of those per bike. But the receiver rack allows total use of the bed to haul real cargo, if you need to haul. I don't like stuffing the bike into the Suburban, so the receiver rack is best. I have a cap for camping in my '72, so the hitch rack works well there, too. Sometimes when I ride the bike is caked with mud, another reason to hang it off the back. I don't see myself ever buying a blanky for my tailgate.

I actually bought one of those only to find out the fenders on my Schwinn Beach Cruiser won't fit in the rack...

Re: Tailgate blanket?
Find it and post a thread on it so we can all watch it together .
A thing I wonder about with the tailgate blankets is scratching the paint. Unless the tailgate is clean and the blanket is too, it will scratch up the paint. How about long trips on the hiway in the rain tossing road grit up? I don't know, but never been a fan of having anything touch my paint while driving. Not for me.
