Step side gas tank filler necks

What are you guys using for gas tank filler necks on step sides? I thought I would just use a radiator hose that was a close fit, but after watching power block this morning, they recommended against that. Your thoughts.

chrismoore: LOL: AFAIK no one makes a filler hose for the 70's stepsides that will fit.
I been trying to find one for years. Also the 76/77 hoses are a little different from the 78/79's. Hard to believe that no one makes one. I'm still using my original. It's true that using a radiator hose is not advised. (Not made for fuel)
It you do a search on this board this topic has come up many times. Larry

Re: Step side gas tank filler necks

I put together a fleet side hose and a generic fuel filler hose from O'Reilly's using conduit that fit the inside diameter and hose clamps. Not an ideal solution, but I could not find the right hose.

Larry what truck do you have.

My 75 step side has only a passenger side gas tank and the hose looks long like the one in your picture.
But where it bolts to the steel filler neck it is curved sharper than 90 like a candy cane.

Let me see is I can post a picture.

ron350>I have a 1977 Stepside Shortbed. My hose does not look like yours.
It is longer w/o that sharp bend as noted in my picture. I have been told that the inlet hole to fuel is placed different in the 76/77's vs. 78/79's. How the 75fits in I don't know. Larry

Re: Step side gas tank filler necks

If all you need is the rubber hose, then you can buy semi-flexible fuel hose of the correct inside diameter on Ebay, Amazon, and elsewhere. It is very expensive, but you can buy it by the inch. If you need the steel neck that attaches to the bed, then there is no such neck on the market - as was previously mentioned. I found some fuel filler hoses on a utility bed from an 80s square body in the junkyard that were in very good shape. So, you might check with truck equipment companies or look for an old utility bed in the junkyard.

Re: Step side gas tank filler necks

The reproductions are exact replicas of NOS original GM hosed. They are correct. Larry, When I look at your hose I can tell it's a stretched out original hose. Ron350, The reproduction should fit without issues. These are hoses we had reproduced and were copied exactly from NOS GM hoses like I stated. It is probable that the beds are shifted slight back or forward. WES

Re: Step side gas tank filler necks

FWIW: Upon checking my Chevrolet parts book there where several fuel hoses for the stepsides from 73-78 with DIFFERENT PARTS NUMBERS. This indicates to me that one hose DID NOT FIT ALL. The (77-78 only) with E62 (Stepside) took number 467574. It has long been discontinued from GM.
Maybe Wes's Hoses will work for you for certain years and I hope they do, but for my 77 which is totally original it did not. Larry

P.S. It should be interesting when the these hoses get out in the field and input starts coming back;will wait and see. Good Luck

These hoses have been out in the field for more than 2 years. I just have only been wholesaling them. They come with a 5 year warranty. WES

The filler hole on the 77-78 stepside fenders are about 2" higher than the 73-76. I had every year stepside truck out here from 73-78 and measured them a while back.

No; never did find one. I have gone on with other projects so I have not
tried too hard to find one. Truck is stored and still has original hose on.

What about universal gas filler hose sections?

I used this in my van, but I had a gentle curve to deal with.

Thanks for the replies.

I will keep looking for a passengers side hose all I see are pictures of drivers side hoses.

Larrys picture above in post #6 is a passengers side hose.

Re: Step side gas tank filler necks

Finally found a filler hose that works from a company called MTS. The first hose they sent me was for a drivers side gas tank so I sent it back and asked for the mirror image of the hose I was returning. They sent the correct hose for a passengers side even though the part # printed on the hose was for the drivers side.

It would appear they have the right and left side hoses mixed up but they insist I am the only person to have this problem.

If you look at the picture you can see the left side (drivers side) part # GMFH-5F printed on the hose connected to my right side (passengers side) gas tank. LOL

Do you have a link or website for MTS? I cannot seem to locate them via Google.
