1959 Chevy Apache big back window fleetside in line 6 vs 1956 Ford f-250 V8

Hello everyone

I have asked for advice on this forum and always have gotten great advice. So i would like to impose upon your expert knowledge once again.

So behind door number one is a 1959 Chevy Apache fleetside short bed big window in line 6 has no cancer and almost all straight body will need a bit of body work then ready for painting.

And the second door has a 1956 Ford f-250 V8 with an eight foot stepside bed, custom cab. The truck is a factory V8 and the truck is complete but needs a lot of body work.

Now I know these trucks are both rare but which is more rare? I may need to make a choice between them as the money may not be there for both.

My vote is the 59 Fleetside!
Asking on a chevy forum for votes on the Ford will be interesting to see results.

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache big back window fleetside in line 6 vs 1956 Ford f-250 V8

Why do you care about "rare"? It doesn't necessarily track to "valuable"

There are likely a lot fewer of the F250's but that's because they were less needed/desireable in the first place. The Fleetside short bed big window was way more desireable but it was a "fancy" truck at a time when most people thought trucks were for work, period.

Now? The '59 is way more desireable (especially rust free if true...and it's not. They all have rust) Hence it is worth more.

And yes, you're asking on a Chevrolet forum. The results are predictable.

In that case it'd be the '59 everyday and twice on Sunday, UNLESS you're really a Ford guy and/or you don't mind cutting down the F250 into a short bed half ton.

Guaranteed if your son is into cars he'll one day WISH the F250 was a shortbed half ton if you give him that.

You meant "Ford" here, right? I'm a Chevy guy too but the '56 F100 is a true classic. I like them too.

'56 Ford is the best looking truck they ever made, but the '59 will be more valuable long term. I'd take both, hard to choose lol

As the owner of both a '56 F100 and a '54 Chevy I want to 2nd Mr. Dan's opinion. I have an even rarer '56 F100 longbed, a 1/2 with a F250 bed, but much less desirable and valuable than a shortbed. When I get around to working on it, I will cut it down to a shortbed. The '56 is a one year only body style and although Ford parts are available, they cost more that their Chevy counterpart. Get the Apache Fleetside.

I agree and though I'm not a Ford guy I have nothing against them. I'm a car guy - I find something to like about ALMOST any car/truck. I just grew up a Chevy fan because my Dad always had Chevy trucks.

3 different AD's; the last one a too-beautiful-for-a-bricklayer-to-use 5 window Emerald green with great chrome. He loved it but hated seeing it get nicked up.

A '59 long bed small window Fleetside with 235. I "helped" put a 283, then a 348 in (I was a little kid, I just handed him wrenches)

Then a '66 long bed C20.

As for Fords, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE '39-40 Ford anything but especially trucks.
And I am a real admirer of the '48-'50 F1's though the '51-'52 get an honorable mention. Some of the early 60's Unibody F100's can be made very nice too.

Dan's explanation for rarity vs. value is the best advice you will get. The mid fifties Ford has been popular for a long time, but between those trucks, a Fleetside with wrap around glass will always be the first choice.

Good catch, I'd forgotten about that thread.

The fact that thread is three months old and the Ford is still available ought to tell the original poster everything he needs to know about its desire-ability. I'm not sure what his fascination with the word, "rare" indicates(?)

Maybe he just likes to THINK out loud about what he should buy instead of actually buying them?

PS to GCM: This Chevy Fleetside looks like a much better starting point than that GMC Fleetside in that October thread did. But the GMC is more "rare" because fewer of them were sold.

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache big back window fleetside in line 6 vs 1956 Ford f-250 V8

I grew up in a chevy family so the choice would be easy for me. The fleetside big window apache was the cadillac of trucks at that time. I have one that's second in line for me to rebuild if I ever have time. I don't know if there are big differences in various regions of the country but in my corner of the woods old chevy trucks are worth more money than old fords, everything being equal. My suggestion is to hang onto the chevy, restore or improve it for driveability, but don't chop it up. You'll be glad some day that you did.

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache big back window fleetside in line 6 vs 1956 Ford f-250 V8

the '59 chevy is likely more valuable as it sits, as others mentioned, the long bed 250 even cut down with a short bed will be titled as a f250, and therefore not in its original state and a heavily modified vehicle (frame and body modifications to make a short bed - not necessarily difficult, but it i IS major surgery)

i think the '56 ford front end is really cool, but the '59 chevy might make a better collector. BOTH would make good drivers. i can't decide, both good lookin trucks. good luck.

But, I ended up buying a 55.2 Chevy.

I'm conflicted here. Here's a pic of my stable. The '54 panel is my wife's and the F-100 is my shop truck.

One thing, though. The Ford guys are weird...better call that truck a "flareside" instead of a step-side. I know, I know...it looks like a step to me, too.
