MY6 NP440 in a 64-66?

Anybody on the board ever put a MY6 transmission into a 64-66?

I'm currently working on the swap but even with the engine moved forward into the front frame tower holes the shifter is pretty far back past the trans access hole. And likely under the seat.

My trans did come with a home made shifter mount but even with the stock one it'd be tight.

Looking like I'll be making a new shifter mount bracket and bending new linkages.

For others coming later, here is the mount i made. I also used a hurst shifter handle that goes up, to the right 90 degrees like 4" then up again. Put's in pretty much center of the tunnel at that point. Bend is under the boot. I think i also tweaked it forward some.

I wanted to keep the engine in the stock rear mounts so I had to move the shifter forward. The bracket that was on there wasn't stock, I don't think the Hurst shifter is stock either.

Made up this bracket and hope to get the linkages made tonight.

Re: MY6 NP440 in a 64-66?

They did come with a factory Hurst shifter (I know my '87 did).

I can't tell if yours is. The fact that the shift handle slips into the base of the shifter would be a clue that it might be factory.

Good job on the installation, by the way.

Re: MY6 NP440 in a 64-66?

Thanks Keith, little bending of the linkages and it should be good to go.

The shifter definitely looks close to the factory MY6 shifters I've seen, and I thought it was when I bought the trans, but the shift arms are a little different and it's listed for a 68/69 A body Mopar....but seems to still work fine.
