Wink Caribbean 66 project/build

I figure I start a build thread since I want to get this project going, i picked up my 66 from a farm here in PR about a week ago, first day, here is what I am working with Put some coolant, checked oil, put in a battery and fresh gasoline and drove 45 minutes home. I have always wanted a 66 C10 so I am really excited about this first mod, Barn Finds sticker from our group here in PR lol!

Second day.... painted the Chevrolet letters in front bumper black lol! had to do something before going to the office, when I got back got the lights working all around, easy fix. Clean the inside of the cab a bit, since it had 15 years of crap all around

You're welcome, I've had some students from San Juan, they say old American vehicles are popular there. I hope you can find all the parts you need.

Oh! nice! yes, the muscle car and classic car scene here is crazy. We just broke a Guiness World Record for the longest moving classic car parade. The record belonged to Mexico with 1700 cars in movement, we just did 2,470 a month ago! it was fun! all cars had to be within 2 car length and all in movement, if the parade stopped or cars got more than 2 car length everyone was disqualified. Last year we tried it and were disqualified because the space between cars was wrong. As far as parts it should be a challenge, there are very few of these trucks here, but that is part of the fun, the HUNT

Re: Caribbean 66 project/build

Had some fun today (not), one of my brakes were sticking hard, thought it might be the e brake but further inspections I don't have an e brake! lol the cables are there but disconnected from the drums so that will be next. Found the sticking drum and it took me better part of 2 days to just remove the drum, tried everything on here, hammer, prying, heat, no rear adjustment window but had one in the front BUT the wheel would not turn so I could not get it to the 6 o'clock position for adjustment also put in a bench seat cover from Kmart until I can get to it and renovate correctly and painted the small shifter ball white! you know you are enjoying a build when I get excited over the small stuff

Re: Caribbean 66 project/build

Update: I have been thinking on what route to take the project, as of now I am going to clean up the engine bay and detail it (paint) and make the inside cab nice. The outside will probably be left as is, some minor tweaks, It will be far from original but fun and nice truck. picked up some high temp paint to get going on the inline six. I used degreaser and then oven cleaner to get it as clean as possible. i chose orange (from auto zone)as I like the older engines in this color, I understand it is not the original color some shot of how dirty it was and some shots of one coat, this paint really covers well, I did the whole first coat with half of the can!I am painting the engine on the bay as it is not leaking and running great so I will not be taking it out, by no means a professional paint job. i will be getting some new cables, sparks, etc so not concern on overspray

Re: Caribbean 66 project/build

A little update! to keep everything documented. Fix the rear sticking brakes, I never thought it would take so long to learn to fix something I took many pictures as reference also learned a DIY way to put the springs without the proper tools. Gave the engine 2 more coats not really worrying about over spray since I will paint the surroundings and change all hoses and cables. I also change plugs and cables today. I need to put four new tires and see why the three speed on the floor sticks so much!

Re: Caribbean 66 project/build

Another engine bay update, did all the preventive maintenance and then degrease it and painted it. Today I did the engine bay with an undercoating and maybe black paint later. New filter for the carb and had some old blue high temp paint so decided to paint it, not sure if I like it but for now I am pretty much done in the engine bay. Like I mentioned not trying to get a show truck just a little nicer looking and to be able to see leaks and problems quicker

Went from this to the last picture.

Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't there be a return spring on the other shoe as well ?

Re: Caribbean 66 project/build

Those 230-250 engines are really tough, and can go a long way. But intake leaks and cracked exhaust manifolds are pretty common. Also, most oil leaks seem to be the valve cover gaskets and bent hold down holes.
Speaking of valve covers, your engine doesn't have the "Chevrolet" script on the valve cover. Possibly a replacement valve cover? GMC? Another GM car?
It doesn't matter, just interesting.

Yes! lol I am looking forward to getting it out on the road! Yes the parade was really fun and met a lot of classic car owners.

Thanks

Glad you brought that up! it is the one single thing that drives me crazy not having, I am looking at some high temp stickers to recreate it or a template to paint it! definitely would be the finishing touch!
