Replacing window handle crank
Might be a stupid question, but can someone tell me how to get the window handle crank off so I can replace it. Went to roll the window down yesterday and the cheap plastic cracked. Thanks in advance.

They make a tool to reve the clip on the back side of handle.You can do it with a pocket screw driver but it's a pain!!

On mine if you slam the door hard enough they just fall off =)
You can push in a little on the door panel where the crank goes in and look in there. When you slowly rotate the crank you can see the clip they are talking about. One end is open and one end has a small bit of loop you can grab, or you can use the tool posted earlier. I have a metal wire with a small hook in it that I fish in there and just pull it off. When you go to reinstall I just put the clip on the crank and push the crank over the shaft carefully.

Get the tool... I know it's annoying but everyone needs one and while it's theoretically possible to get lucky and pop the clip off with a screwdriver or similar, I've never managed to. But the tool makes it trivial.

Just get a fish hook dull the point, or get the little screwdriver style hook. Push the pad back enough to hook the little clip and pull it out. Then the handle just pops off. No need for a special tool��. Any little piece of wire or coat hanger will work in two seconds flat.

I splurged and spent the 5.99 for the tool at Orielly's, worked like a champ. Popped both old ones off and replaced with new ones. Thanks for everyones help.

I was working on my door panels this weekend and I had heard of the wrapping a shop rag around the shaft area like franken said. I gave it a shot just to see how well it works. It works super easy, not really sure how it does it but the clip came right off. I still like using my little spring hook. It does look like picking one of those clip removers for 6 bucks is also another cheap and easy option

I've allways used the shop rag trick when scouring the jy's. Theres is always plenty of rags found in the vehicles.
I've had times at home when I get them off quicker with the rag than with the tool.

BTW Those clips are called "Jesus" clips because that's the most common exclamation when they fly away. That's what I was told as a youngster but I've never been able to be that civil.
