Most of those pics are from this site, I just organize them by year, make, model, theme etc on my computer for easy reference.

If the correct period look is important to you, there was a 17.5" one piece wheel that was standard on 60-66 3/4 tons (split rims were the heavy duty option) that will get your truck factory "original" agian. For a few extra dollars the 17.5" tires can be special ordered at any truck tire dealer.

Can anyone ID this truck (or its owner) from post #26? It's my dream find. Would love to know more if someone here knows anything about it. Thanks!

What was the purpose of the wooden bed? I like the look of it, but would be afraid to throw anything in it.

Back in the day it had a lot to do with the fact that livestock could stand up better in a wooden bed than on a steel bed. I know my dad told me a lot of stories about how when beds went mostly to steel, there was a backlash with many of the Chevy dealers in the midwest because the customers rejected them (dad was a district manager with Chevrolet Motor Division). It was always an issue even earlier than that when they bought used midwestern farm and ranch trucks for my grandad's car lot.

Re: originals,,still have place in my heart ( pics )

^^^I have heard that as well, and also the fact that in the areas where rust is a problem, the wood bed floors lasted longer, and if it ever started coming apart, then you could simply replace the planks.

Could you imagine having a 1000lbs+ animal standing in a steel bed and going around a corner? You had better hang on, because when that animal loses it's footing, you're going to be changing lanes real fast.
