Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Just doing the bodywork now. Been taking what I can to work to strip and bodywork while it's slow and priming at home.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Haven't done much to the truck with the holidays and all. I did bodywork and epoxy the front door and welded up the mirror holes since I'm going to the smaller style sport mirrors. Took the bed back off again so i can bodywork the rear of the cab and that's about it. There's the last spot of rust on the whole cab ill address that when i bodywork the roof

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

I have done alot to the red truck on the otherhand. Its drivable now with just a few minor things left to do.
I bought a parts truck with a goodwrench 350 and what looked like a solid pass fender. The fender turned out to be full of mud and in worse shape then mine bodywise so I'm still looking

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Here's the goodwrench 350 cleaned up and mated to a th 400. The Driveshaft was already set up for a truck style th400 so i got lucky there. I rebuilt an older edelbrock 600 and added a new mini stater, fuel pump, finned valves covers and air cleaner, msd plug wires etc etc etc also bought a bb radiator and top mount. I also had to go thru the brake system and replaced the master cyl, brake hoses and rear wheel cyl's

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Also picked up some 17" rallys for it too. The offsets wrong and they tuck in way too much in the rear they could really use another 3" offset to bring them out but cant complain too much for what i payed for them. All the lights even work as they should!

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

As it sits right now. I have some wiring work to clean up inside the truck and time to start tackling the interior work. The exhaust needs to be lengthened a little bit to meet the headers from the parts truck and that's about it. It'll be daily drivable then and ready for it's new owner

Nice work on your crew and the red crew. If you need a patch for the roof on your crew, I have a 88 cab I'm using for patches and I could cut a piece off it for you if you'd like.

Thanks for the offer but I've got 2 donor roofs already from cabs I've cut up in the past. They make good tables lol

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

It's been a while but I'm still here lol. Finally sold the red crewcab last month after sitting on it for months. Ended up redoing alot of the interior in black texture and put brand new carpet ,insulation in with dynamat also. Also put 15x8 rallys with new tires rings and caps that I kept after I sold it. Using those on the new project now

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Then I picked up this 77 dually back in feburary for 850 bucks couldn't pass it up. I wanted to build a shortbed dually out of it but after moving it around my yard a couple times I got over it and just wanted it gone.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

So I traded my buddy for this 78 c30. He threw in a 4.8 ls and new wire harness kit to sweeten the deal.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Then we got it into the shop and prepped the frame for the shortbed conversion. We took 14" out behind the cab and cut 3.5" off the rear of the frame.

With it all welded up I ground the outsides of the frame and welded up the inside and prepped the inside for the fish plates which I still need to make and weld in

Then I dropped all the old 1 ton suspension and started cleaning the frame with a wire cup to remove the grease, under coating and scale build up.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Next I had enough parts left over from parts truck to piece together a c10 suspension clip including drop spindles and drop springs I picked up. I prepped the c10 crossmember with the same wire cup and painted it and the frame area with some rattle can black

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

I painted the spindles sway bar and center link too but I'm still waiting for the front suspension rebuild parts to arrive before I can clean, paint and rebuild the a arms. For now I'll just assemble it so I can make it a roller. I also got the old spring pad mounts and shock mounts cut off the 12 bolt. I picked up some new spring pads locally and was able to get the 12 bolt flipped and mounted on top of the springs.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Sure looks good outside with the 5/5ish drop and the rallys left over from the red crewcab. The front suspension parts should be here this weekend so I can get the rest of it rebuilt and hopefully get the fenders mounted again and the rest of the front frame painted.
