Re: McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

Hey guys. I have a 73-87 drop spindle/disc brake set-up on my 67. Does anyone know if the McGaughys kit would change the track width any from what I have now?

probably not, might even be narrower. What spindles are whose spindles do you have now?

With CPP and McGaughys spindles that are their new modular ones 13" were what I looked into and they were 1- 1/8" total less wide than the typical kit using stock style spindles a separate hub and slide over rotor combination.

They how both places explained it to me.

Ive have some no-name 2.5" drop spindles for a 73-87 that I bought probably 15 years ago. I like the reduction in track width(allows for deeper wheels) that the CPP spindles give you and was wondering if the McGaughys was similar. According to Whittaker that seems to be the case, thanks guys.

What about the McGaughy's rear kits, do they use the exact same rotors? I have heard some issues with clearance on rear axles, do you know any more info on this and/or if its been rectified over the years?

Re: McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

On the rear kit the problem is the center bore where the rotor fits over the axle. I had to get my Moser 5 lug conversion axles machined down a little to fit. It's not a lot, basically just shaved maybe a 1/16 to get the rotor to fit.

Another bit of input doing the rear kit if you use AC Delco part number 18P5 for the emergency brake cable it will fit perfectly. You can use the OE parts and adjustment rod, I had stock trailing arms on the truck I put together. ~7" static drop. With that em brake cable it had plenty of adjustment so if it needed .75" more or so you'd be fine.

The only issue I had with the MCGaughys stuff is the wheel studs are really short. Dorman 610-298.1 works nicely. I was running Billet Specialties if it matters.

the rear kit does use a C4 Front rotor like they use in the front, I'll have to check to make certain but I think the hub register is opened up some.

Re: McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

I know this is an old thread but its as close to my question as I can get in a search. I need to replace my pads on the McGaughey's disk brake kit I installed. What pads do I use? Is it the 2000 Chevy truck calipers? I emailed McGaughys but I am impatient. Thanks
