Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Is there any plans in the future to maybe make some brackets for a 9"?

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

I don't have any plans for brackets specifically for a 9". If you are narrowing a 9", and you use the correct housing ends, have your axles made with the correct brake offset and the 5x5 wheel stud pattern, you can use any of my brackets.

I already have the housing, do you know where I can find information on the appropriate brake offset.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

I just checked on Moser's site and they show the Impala/truck differential as having a 2.42" brake offset. I will confirm that tomorrow when I get to the shop.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Just so I have this right, the brake offset is measured from the housing end to the outside of the axle flange?

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

No worries, you're not hijacking.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner on the brake offset.....I just plain forgot last night. Anyway, the brake offset on a truck 12 bolt is 2-1/2". I measured a 5 lug 12 bolt, and it was 2-1/2". I measured a '67 6 lug 12 bolt and it was 2-5/8" on one side, but I couldn't measure the other side yet. Then I measured a 9" that I narrowed, and set up for the truck brakes, and it is at 2-1/2" also. I think that possibly the 2.42" that Moser shows on their site might be the location on the axle itself. With the pressed on bearings, the bearing sits about 1/16" (.062") outside of the housing end. This would make the brake offset right close to 2-1/2"

Here are the housing ends that I have used that I was referring to.

The 5x5" Impala SS rotors won't work on a 6x5.5" application. The ones you need are here....

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

i know i'm bringing back a super old topic in this thread (page 2, almost a year ago), but I finally got around to bolting my set up.

the 89-92 f-body calipers (which are pretty much identical to the 93-97) work just fine with these brackets and the impala 5x5 rotors. the only difference is the e-brake cable assembly is different, and which could potentially cause clearance problems on some 15" wheels, and certainly on anything smaller.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

I didn't realize that the '89-'92 F-body calipers would work. Do they have the same style of e-brake as the '93-'97 calipers? Do you have any pics of your setup?

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

the pictures aren't the best, but the e-brake assembly is all on there. i highlighted the black e-brake cable coming off to the side - i just have it hanging free right now.

i'm not sure if the 93-97 setup is identical or not. it might be the same or similar based on the third image i attached, which was on rockauto.com for a 94 camaro rear caliper. that looks similar to what i have.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

So is the e-brake cable coming off of the top of the calipers you are using? The '93-'97's have the cable coming off of the bottom of the caliper.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

i guess it's possible i mounted them on the wrong sides, i think they would bolt up either way - i had one mocked up opposite that. but with the way the e-brake cables come out of the back pointing toward the center of the truck, and how stiff they are, they would be pointing right at the leaf springs and it would be hard to route them otherwise.

i might be the exception on pre-73 trucks though, because my 72 blazer is a 4x4 truck being converted to 2wd, so i have the leaf spring rear suspension and the 5 bolt axles necessary for this brake swap.

i'll get more pictures this week if you want more detail, but my key point is that the 89-92 stuff will bolt up.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

The easiest way to tell which caliper goes on which side is the position of the bleeder.

The '93-'97 calipers have the e-brake cables going towards the center also.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Trying to decide if I want to go with these or the 6-lug option in a few months. Probably going to go with these since if I have to buy new wheels either way, might as well go for 5-lug (my 6-lug wheels are 15" and won't clear the bigger rear disc)

Is any modification to the axle or rotor required?

Also, has anyone tried this using the Centric-branded calipers from Rockauto? At a bit over $60 each (unloaded, but pads are cheap and I want to run Hawks) and no core charge, it really makes the disc option very close to the cost of refurbishing the drums again.

Rockauto has these Camaro calipers for in the $60.00 range? I'll have to check that out......

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Yeah, no core even. Love Rockauto!

I checked Centric, the Impala rotors are based on a 3.07" hub size and the 5-lug C10 drums are on a 3.10" hub size. Order custom axles, or just have a shop turn .03" out of the inside diameter of the rotor?
